This is how I feel about it too. It seems like blizz has too much staked in dragon riding customization and need us chasing that carrot on a stick for engagement. Best we can hope for is a glyph or mark that turns us into our dragon riding forms. That way we can still soar in old world for fun. For old world flying I dunno I just use sandstone drake

Just give Dracthyr the ability to fly as themselves with all the regular benefits/restrictions of mount travel.
Honestly, the restriction to just having soar is stupid. We have wings. Let me USE THEM.
The logic is that if they can just fly without any restrictions then the class would feel a lot cooler and more powerful than the other classes including Druids and DHs with the latter also having wings but only being able to use them for jumping and when falling and the Druid having to have to shapeshift into an otherwise useless form.
It would also diminish if he effect for chasing other mounts as flying yourself will always be way cooler than flying on a mount.
DHs have wings too and Illidan have shown to be able to perfectly fly, dragons should be more than happy that their soar ability goes 3 steeps further than what DHs wings can do
I couldn’t care less if it ‘deminishes’ other classes. We have wings LITERALLY MADE FOR FLYING, yet we get some garbage 4 min CD flying? (3 min in familiar skies) No. It is absolutely asinine that there is no option to just fly in the open world as Dracthyr.

It amazes me that druids are better at flying than warrior dragons. If Dracthyr had anything I would have thought they would have the ability to fly.
One of the devs said in the original interviews after the reveal of the expansion that the Dracthyr were their own mount.
Yeah it looks really bad to be on a mount as Dracthyr. And I say that as someone who is (and will remain to be) a Druid and DH main.
Let Dracthyr fly… with you know… the wings they have on their back.
