Can you get in trouble for a monopoly on the AH?

So apparently someone has systematically bought nearly every single level 60-66 green and reposted them for 5000-7500g. I’m curious if this is acceptable to blizzard or their playerbase.

Ive heard stories about people being banned for using the AH in questionable ways, but I’m not sure if this counts.

Thoughts?

In fact if you do not buy these items at said prices you can be banned for poor sportsmanship.

pure facts right here.

Plot twist: he is the one posting the geeens for said price

Theyre trying to corner a market that they will never corner. To me it seems like a foolish plan to me…i mean green gear falls like rain in this game.

Im sure theyll be reposting their items…alot.

if they have the gold to do it and actually make an impact on server price, it’s 100% allowed.

Lol jokes on them greens unless rare and highly sought are not worth doing that on. Lol

who even buys green gear in that range? I mean it’s not even that good looking for xmog and as someone else mentions drops like crazy. Sounds like a bad investment strat.

Trying to monopolize green gear is pointless, they are raining down upon us and you level to 70 in just quest gear. Then you purchase the super cheap blue level 70 gear, who actually even bothers buying green gear while leveling?

If I don’t think an item on the auction house provides value for my gold, I do not buy it.

So if people don’t think green armor is worth 5000-7000g then don’t buy it. The person listing them can suffer the loss of gold when they expire and the listing fee is kept. They can then decide to list at the same price, list lower, or sell them to a vendor.

plus in an hour, someone will come along and post items in the 2000-3000g range.

I only noticed because I went back to level an old alt, and when he arrived in the Dragon Isle his ilvl was FAR too low to even queue for dungeons. Did a few WQ for upgrades, and figured I’d hit the AH, expecting to spend a couple thousand total for 3-4 greens. Every single level 60 green was 5k, level 61s were slightly higher, and 66 greens were 7.5k.

Maybe it’s a sad AH goblin trying to find a new market it can corner now that commodities are global?

There will come a point where the AH cut will cost him more in the long run than what he will make off them.

This is why I always upgrade professions on my alts. At least they can create some green leveling items.

Yea I’ve seen that before. Funny if you level up an alt and get those items you can post them at half of the price (still far more gold than its worth) and it will bait the guy into buying them. Made thousands doing this.

Buying low, selling high isn’t a bannable offense, nor is that a monopoly, a monopoly would be control over the entire transmog market by 1 person on your server, which is near impossible or dumb to do in the first place.

so no it’s not bannable what that person did.

Yeah, I’m leveling a healing monk and took LW, but really the immediate goal was to get to a high enough ilvl to queue for dungeons. Half the world quests, including a 2H and THREE trinkets were ago only, which also didn’t help.

No. Cornering a market is not actionable.

Yes. That’s emergent gameplay. That’s encouraged in MMOs. You can’t have a fun and lively economy if you as a designer are interfering with it.

I post greens for a few gold and most come back up sold. Half time it just vendor to make some gold.
