did they specifically say there wouldnt be traditional flying eventually?
i’m under the impression we will still get the usual flying eventually with rep and acheivs like usual - but dragon-riding is available right off the bat
They’ve talked about how they’re going to make adjustments to it with accessibility options for people with motion sickness, but if that means just turning a few effects off then I fail to see how that will be enough…
I just recently read about how they added a potion vendor in Grimrail Depot, and that turns off ALL the motion on the client-side, meaning the train is just stopped completely
So maybe if the accessibility fixes they implement aren’t enough, then they might consider this as a next step
They might, Motion Sickness is much better reasoning then mine. I simply enjoy being able to afk in the sky and draw things. Thats how I find joy and this kind of ruins it.
It is no different than other expansions where we have no flying for the first patch. So they are not removing your ability to have relaxing views. They’re adding a method of flying in the first patch. We do not know what will occur with OG flying or this new system in 10.1
I’m always a bit surprised at the amount of people who have an ultra niche red line about any upcoming expansion based on some completely made up (as in not developed for, not as in imaginary) activity or their physical or psychiatric conditions.
Not saying that your feedback isn’t valid, but you have to realize such a stance can’t impact design goals because it’s so niche.
No it’s not. They aren’t babysitters. It’s important for them to design something fun. And if this is fun, it can easily survive in tandem with traditional flying.
I’m not acting out for attention, I am just really concerned at the game I once loved being stripped away and re-formatted into something that no longer has room for my play style in it. It is great to try new stuff.
But this seems like a sneaky swap out. Blizzard has a long history of killing the systems that make it great and replacing them with lesser systems.
Heck one of the selling points of this expac is that they are returning something they killed long ago.
If that’s how people have fun, they should be able to. The argument “I want to see more people in the wild” is just another way of controlling others’ playtime.
I don’t play Madden nor like it. So that’s not a way to convince me of anything. Flying isn’t infinite gold.
Flying is part of this game and has been since TBC. It’s something that can exist in tandem to advanced gliding. And there is no reason to create this kind of friction among players for something that has been here for 16 years.
If it’s entertaining enough, they won’t have to strong arm people into it.
People always go the more efficient route, even when it’s not fun. This has been proven over and over again. It’s the key flaw in the covenant system.
WoW “flight” is literally just dropping the game physics. It’s not fun, it’s just efficient.
For a new form of flight to ever take over, it needs to wholesale replace the existing one. Since rigging the nearly 1000 mounts in game will take a while, starting with a new one is a good start. I full expect a more evolved form of this to replace what flying is now. It’s more gamery.
It’s not up to Blizz to control people. What people decide to do in an open world is up to them.
You can ride on the ground just as endlessly as you can in flight. And you can come across enemies just the same.
It doesn’t need to replace the existing one. And if it has to be forced despite what people really like, instead of giving a choice, it’s not that great to begin with.
If you want the more tuned in and skilled sort of flying, buy a glider or use this system. If you want free form flying, it should be available like flying has been up until this point.
There is no reason to create this much contention among players for something that was never a problem until WoD. Only after Blizz shared their opinion on flying, did people like you show up.
