Can we toggle "Dragon Flight" on and off?

Dragon Flying sounds fun and I would like to play with it. However, I do not wish to be stuck with it at all. I feel like it will become a stressful mini game system to get from point to point.

I love current flying for its relaxing views and my ability to mentally check out from point to point.

So I am asking Blizzard to avoid it’s normal trend to put it’s own foot in it’s mouth and simply allow us to convert back and forth between flying styles with a toggle system. And if no one turns dragon flight on because it’s a pain, they simply accept that your idea was not that fun and move on like adults to a new idea. It’s not right to force us buy taking away the things we already know and love.

Thank you.

According to other answers I have seen all flying (at first anyway) will be done with new flying. You are more than welcome to say on the ground though.

I’m kinda the opposite. I actually don’t care for the mounts in games like WoW/FF14/ESO. This new system interests me, since it reminds me of GW2’s mounts. In which case, it’s less a mini game as more added fun things to do on top of already basic functionality. If WoW’s devs can pull this off even half as well as the systems they look like they’re copying, I am super excited for it.

If you have to rip away stuff in order to get people to use your new system, then it’s more than likely your new system has serious flaws in it.

If it’s a cool system, then people will try it, and use it naturally. There should not be a need to remove an established system that people like in order to sell your newer product.

I’d like to see an option for being able to let your dragon climb up mountains (part of the talent system?) so if takeoff is a chore or stressful to some you can Bethesda Horse up any surface.

I don’t think you understand what I am saying and are confusing me with a “No Flight” person.

I want Regular Flight and Dragon Flight open from the beginning.

Thanks for your direct answer. But I think it is a bad move for Blizzard to Deny both from launch and I am entitled to at least keep that opinion.

I mean, if we could regular fly and therefore bypass any and all obstacles, why would anyone pick the inferior option that requires you to master mechanics for less benefit?

I’d like to have both options. Let them give us choices.

Heh, they might… It looks like the mounts they’re, ahem, getting inspiration from are the Skyscale and the Griffon. Griffon likes you to jump off tall things and can swoop around and glide at great speed. Skyscale can actually gain altitude and latch on to cliff faces.

Basically the Griffon is a glorified glider. It starts out high and can glide down slowly. It’s base skill is a flap that lets you regain a bit of altitude, and you can use it every few seconds as your energy recharges. With up upgrade it will dive down and gain huge amounts of speed, and then let you soar back up to where you were before and lose that speed. It’s a ton of fun to play with.

The Skyscale is more specialised. It lets you do things like hover and fly, but in a sort of weird way. Think of it like this… You get on your Skyscale and fly straight up. Now imagine a cone around you, that’s your flight height. As you go farther, you flight height diminishes and your forced to land, though landing resets it. Essentially you kinda take long bunny flights across the map. I am not explaining it well, but it works. It has a sort of barrel role it can do in mid air as energy permits to essentially dodge in the the air. It can also latch on to surfaces, and with upgrades and a bit of energy do a little jump. That means if you were gliding to a ledge and were just a foot below it you would latch on to the cliff, charge up, and then you could jump up that last foot.

What people often do is use the Skyscale to scale mountains, since all you need to do to reset your energy and flight height is to land on a flat surface. People will fly to max height, land or latch on to a ledge and hop up, and then repeat. Once they’re at the top, they will Griffon and dive down and do amazing things.

Heh, or lazy people people like me just use the Skyscale for everything because I like just being able to fly around the map and get everywhere. It’s slower than the Griffon, but you can move upwards. Makes exploring fun.

In theory they could build the system to be fun to use and that’s why you would choose it.
Add nice speed bursts, cool spins and dives. Make it faster to use dragon flight and attach the dragon customizations to learning the skill.

Let that be enough bait and don’t rip away options from people.

Iunno isn’t that kinda like say, adding a skip and get all loot button to everything and then wondering why everyone picks that option instead of doing stuff? Its not cuz that stuff isn’t fun its that…you literally have an iwin button that does it for you. This seems like such a bizarre request ngl.

And people who do that will not have access to content that must be reached by leveling up the dragon and unlocking its abilities.

Not at all. Blizzard is locking mandatory content behind doing all the things necessary to level up the dragon and unlock its abilities, and probably also behind being really good at jumping puzzles. I’m concerned myself, and I think it’s also reasonable to assume that there will be no flight planned in 11.0 and no expansion-themed jumping puzzle to grind up.

There is no reason regular flying has to be a drop in and win situation. They could actually add weather patterns and place stuff indoors or in caves to prevent “drop in and kill”.

Besides as a rogue I sneak in and kill so the flying part is not really a huge advantage. We all have access to invis potions.

Their first attempt at a system like flight was something that is mechanically like a noclip movement tool, doing that could already be considered a colossal flaw because there is literally no way to expand or improve upon that.

Then you are going to be disappointed because that’s not going to happen.

I think for those of us who want it, we should keep asking.

Probably not. But like switching your kids chocolate chip cookies for raisin cookies it helps build deep trust issues.

Blizzard built enough trust issues, I don’t want to see them go down this road again.
