Forgive me if this sounds naive, but how do you tell a high functioning autistic person from a normal person if you aren’t well versed in the subject? Just saying I’m sure I’ve met a few but there was nothing that screamed the diagnosis at me, it’s kind of complicated because as you said it’s a very broad spectrum.

You really can’t. That was my original point: it’s typically not visual. I was Asperger’s before it was changed to high-functioning. Unless you’re a psychiatrist, neurologist, or trained in spotting someone like me, you’d be like most people and think I’m joking when I mention it.
