It’s seriously time. Especially now that we know it can absolutely be done, due to the ZM portal. Just lower the rest of the portals to ground level and let us walk through the freaking things. Have them drop us off at the beginning of each zone, just like we were dropped off when we first went to those zones in the main storyline.
The flightmaster can stay for those who want to go to different destinations, but really… we’ve got useless portals sitting there and they should be used just like the ZM one.

The zones being so disconnected is probably the worst thing about shadowlands in my opinion.
I really hope they never design an expansion like this again.

It’s really what they should have done to begin with instead of the huge flight paths that look like I died in Borderlands.

I agree. I am getting sick of those portals glowing at us as if they work. They are just floor models at this point.
I’m well past the point where I don’t NEED to do callings, but I’d do callings a lot more often for the easy money if travelling around SL wasn’t so boring.

I think there’s actually a bit of a technical difference in that ZM is on its own map/instance whereas the others are all on the same map, but reaaaaally far away from each other but that wouldn’t stop them from turning the portals into portals. It just means that the non-ZM portals would work more like the SW mage tower portal (teleporting to different coordinates within the same map) than they would more traditional inter-map portals.

Fully agreed. It is so flipping annoying to be stuck on the rails every time I want to hop between zones quickly for some dailies.
This is complete malarkey.
Both the Maw and Korthia are on the “same map” but have portals.

Please read the rest of my post. I never claimed that the technical difference would prevent them from making portals, just that they’d have to be a different sort of portal.

I think he’s talking about the fact that we don’t have to go through a loading screen (a real loading screen) when going from Oribos to say, Ardenweald or Bastion, but we do for Korthia/Maw.
If I am standing in Revendreth and am tracking a quest in Maldraxxus, I will have an arrow pointing off my Revendreth map in the direction of Maldraxxus, I don’t think the same goes for when I am tracking a quest in ZM.

There are portals from the covenants to Oribos.

I just did a test because why not
From oribos to the closest flight point in maldraxxus took me 1 minute 18 seconds
From maldraxus to ardenweald it took 2 minutes and 25 seconds.
I dont want to spend all day on flight paths.
So if we just assume the 2 minutes 25 seconds is the ammount of time it takes to go from one zone to another.
Then doing all 4 zones a day takes 9 minutes and 51 seconds of sitting afk.
If you did that every day for a week, thats 1 hour 9 minutes of your life gone.
Do it for a year and its 60 hours sat afk getting to the zones.
I know most wont do that, but im sure some players did.
The flight paths suck.

Exactly.
Now that I’m thinking about it, at some point I want to see if you get a similar effect between Outland and the Draenei and Belf starting areas since those also share a map. It’d be pretty funny to get a quest arrow for something in Eversong Forest while standing in Hellfire Peninsula!

Now do from the Covenant hall in Bastion to literally anywhere. xD
No, don’t, it’s a super long time. On my Kyrian folks I always port to the bottom FP (If I don’t have the rank 3 portal) because just getting from the top of Bastion to the bottom takes a lot of time.
I actually never realized they were in the same instance or “zone”. XD
This used to actually be the case (though it was much more obvious with someone in Quel’danas while you were in an Outland zone, since both were “current” content). Wouldn’t surprise me if it still is.

Yep. Blizz originally put those two areas on the Outland map as a way to keep out players who hadn’t bought TBC, since it’s easier to bounce players at instance portals than it is to try to keep them out with teleports, invisible walls, etc.
That had ceased to be a problem by Cataclysm but those two areas have yet to be integrated into the continents they belong on as a result.
I’m still holding out for a day when they update those zones. I actually really loved the entire questing experience for all those zones, I love Bloodmyst Isle. I started in TBC and played the eff out of those zones. Made so many Draenei and Blood Elves. xD
I am hoping with the new Blood Elf stuff they also update SMC, but I’m not holding my breath.

Absolutely hate it. Hate Oribos, can’t just walk out of town and fly around. It makes going anywhere not enjoyable.

I made a wormhole at the start of the expansion and I’ve never used a flightpath to a zone in shadowlands once since. I either wormhole to a place I want to go or I wait 15 minutes for it to be off CD to use it again.

I did drop professions on most of my characters to be engineers for that. Because that’s how bad traveling was.
I also spent time farming pocket portals.

That should have been a renown 80 unlock.
