I wish they would change how the timeways portal rooms work. You get unmounted going into the building with the portal. Then you have to mount back up, but since it’s a no fly zone you can’t use the random mount button or you get a ground mount. It feels like something that was designed by a person who never uses it.
I appreciate GW2’s take on MMORPGs, I like all of the unique innovations they implemented.
But I also think that it didn’t stick the landing in some regards. I feel like the game is too passive and is too afraid to ask players to directly engage with it. It’s not a bad game but the result is that the game is really boring, even by MMO standards.
Every time I log in I see ArenaNet sent me even more level boosts. Like, come on I actually want to play the game LOL.
Sometimes I just like to travel the world to get to some place if I’m not in a major hurry. If they make a portal NPC it would be so boring imo. Portal rooms just look cool imo and its a great place to find lots of people to turn them in witches with my little needle.
There’s a reason i’m still sentimental about rift.
You can literally change the entire map just by engaging with the active events.
Shame it ts is currently in monetization limbo.
Somebody at Blizzard will see this and come with an ai mage to port you anywhere for 1000 gold. Cha Ching !
I hate this post. I love the portal rooms, they’re cool. OP just wants to remove all the character from the game.
Always play with a Mage. Problem solved. Lol
Mage + Engineer = see the world super fast.
And I’ll be one of them.
I like the portal rooms… having said that, I wouldn’t mind a rare Winter Veil portal toy to get back to IF during the festivities. With a bunch of alts flying back, that would save me 45+ minutes of staring at griffon butts
Remove the portal rooms, you gotta use boats and zeplins only. Shadowlands portal in Icecrown, Outland/Draenor portal in the blasted lands.
That’s true immersion.
Otherwise, one npc mage providing portals is a good idea. Hopping from portal to portal to get to your destination is dumb.
No, 10 char min
There’s an NPC in Dornogal that takes you to the Winter Veil area in IF.
I don’t see how a bunch of random crammed together portals in such a small space is more immersive than a portal device/waypoint that lets you select from others. If it was some grand area with a bunch of big maintained portals maybe people would have a point, but we just have a bunch of portals crammed together in a closet.
If you wanted an immersive portal system, a portal to a big portal realm like they ended up doing with M+ portals makes more sense than the current city portal rooms. That would add another load screen though.
Org at least needs a much larger portal area. Cut a big slice in the mountains that surround it and add a little portal to a bigger portal room that’s better organized. Portaling to an area in the same zone at least wouldn’t require another load screen. The org portal room doesn’t even make sense. It’s right by the front entrance and isn’t a mage-themed location. The SW portal room is at least well protected in the city in the mage tower and makes some kind of sense immersion wise. There is zero in-game logic to justify the Org portal room situation.
Its ridiculous to rely so heavily on the Dalaran hearthstone to get back to SW ORG.
Wait for next year when they release the new $500 “Astral Portal-Bearer Brutosaur”
This. We’d have to travel to the npc, and there would have to be multiple npcs to spreadout crowds. The room is starting to look like a portal room. I would then have to click on an npc, a menu, and (potentially) on a portal instead of just clicking on a portal like we have now.
Yas king. No more portal rooms. Only zeppelins and flight paths.
Then we can eat popcorn while everyone cries while we just do our thing.
Laughing, for real!
It’s funny how many people mistake chaos, confusion, and inefficiency for “immersion.”
The game is chock full of flight paths, zeppelins, boats, portals, and of course the Deeprun tram. It’s half a dozen different legacy systems fighting for consistency like a sack of starving weasels, added to bit by bit in nearly a dozen expansions in 20 years. It’s dozens or hundreds of weird little additions, some race, class or profession specific, others expansion specific. (Remember the waygates we unlocked in Dragonflight, and promptly forgot about?) Heck, pet battlers have their own small portal system. Mythic+ dungeon heroes have their own set. There are hearthstones and trinkets, rings and cloaks, toys and mages and warlocks… A truly creative person can make almost any trip an adventure … or a shortcut.
Just because some of us think the official portal system needs an overhaul and revamping for the sake of consistency and convenience, doesn’t mean we want to tear down all the other mess. And nothing is keeping folks from taking the slow, inefficient way for “immersion” if they really want to ride their horse from Stormwind to Blasted Lands, through the Dark Portal, and so on, instead of just leaping through a portal to Shattrath.
This is why I’d love a teleport/portal NPC to replace or enhance the mess that is our capitol cities’ system right now. Imagine if you could customize them from a small selection of the available portal-casting NPCs…
