Can we PLEASE just have a portal NPC? It makes no sense at this point

I have granted your wish…G.L.A.D.O.S. is now an NPC///

IMO, ESO and GW2 are very similar for all the wrong reasons. ESO seems inspired by GW2 but both are greedy, boring, and grindy, fully of shenanigans and gimmicks, P2W antics.
As if they were designed by Ferengis or Goblins like Trade Prince Gallywix. And GW1 is laughable and not comparable to WoW at all, it’s essentially cheap proof of concept, fake open world, every zone is actually short maze with invisible walls galore. So bad, ppl defend it claiming “It’s not about leveling, but enjoying the adventure experience like a slow fine wine.” Forget that. Personally, I want to be strong. As fast as possible. And faster is always better than slow. I prefer not to play an “MMORPG” with an artificial “speed limit” to hide the lack of content, and where it’s like being a rat in the maze, and every 5 steps you have to fight 5 other rats to advance another 5 steps, wash, rinse, repeat. No thanks.
If others dig the gameplay, that’s totally fine. I suppose it has to be about what mood one is into (“Today, I feel like playing a puzzle game.” or “Ya know today, I’m now feeling like playing a maze game.”)

ESO is inspired by Dark Age of Camelot, as many of the DAoC devs ended up at ZOS/Bethesda making it.

the rest of what you typed there is nonsense. you’re describing features of a game that you don’t like, but you aren’t actually describing either one of the games in question.

It’s fine that you like WoW better, most of us here do. otherwise we would not be here.

We don’t even need an NPC. We could do it Torghast style. Walk up to the Portal, and then pick the expansion, and then the destination. A couple clicks and WOOSH! We could put one in every major faction city.

Better yet, just a Gnomish/Goblin NPC that stands next to a transporter wormhole that’s permanently open, and you tell them where you’d like to go.

There’s really no need for the ever-expanding portal rooms to exist.

People just get confused and run back and forth in them anyway, looking for the portal they thought was over there.

Also, I laugh whenever I see that the Dornogal portal is away from the other ‘active’ ones and is in a half-empty room. It’s like TWW isn’t the main expansion right now.

You guys don’t like the portal rooms? I think they’re a cool concept but need to be cleaned up. Especially the Orgrimmar one which is just a weird hole in the wall. But the Stormwind one is nice looking, it’s just gotten cluttered.

Or have a portal just open, as big as the ones that are there now. When you click on it, you can select where you want to go. “Assuming you have the zone unlocked”.

Honestly, It is pretty silly having all the portals we have now.

I get your point but I just don’t think it would actually make anything much better. I think it would be a net equivalent for overall gameplay and a net negative for my “feels” of the game basically and you can take from that what you will. Just don’t like it.

It’s the next store mount.

Nope, I get you man. We each have our own likes and dislikes. Beauty of opinions. Everybody has one  (Even though mine are always the best)

nah, portal rooms give it some flavor

I don’t think we need an NPC to spawn a portal. You just talk to the NPC, it reveals a selection of locations where other portal NPCs are, you click on that and off you go.

If nothing else, it would remove the work involved in creating new portals and/or expanding the portal rooms every expansion.

On my mage I love to cast icy veins and drop all portals I can, and put the ancient Dalaran portal in the middle.

It’s like portal roulette

All the “WoW Killers” nobody talks about anymore because they all lost their playerbase.

I just wish they stopped removing portal rooms from old hubs. Makes the world feel a little more dead.

I like the portal rooms but I could see where it might get out of hand in a few more expansions.

Playing Morrowind many years ago I noticed the Guild Guide system. The mage guild had guild houses in major settlements providing teleportation services in locations important enough to have a guild house.

Translated to WoW a Morrowind like system could work pretty much the same with the Kirin Tor outposts being the major providers. The massive portal galleries would no longer be needed and as such smaller establishments could fill this service instead. In the case of the mage tower in Stormwind the entire portal room can be removed, no extra architecture would be needed. A symbolic fee of a few golds could be charged as well.
