Can we please get some Linux love?

Like I’m just annoyed at the state of this game’s performance on Linux. All you have to really do is support Vulkan. How hard would it really be to port the mac version over to Linux and add Vulkan support. The game freezes in wine and I’ll have to reinstall everything because it corrupts the game files. You want us to think you really care? Snap, appimages, & flatpaks exist so you don’t need to support any specific distribution, and by using flathub, you support every distribution on the planet by default. It’s not hard to enable flathub on any distribution. There’s a growing number of Linux users thanks to the steam deck. I feel like it’s time to throw Linux users a bone, even if it’s just wow.

Get windows brah

You can just dual boot windows. Blizzard has taken a pretty big stance that they’re not going to support linux. And OSX has quite a bit different base than linux, you cannot just port that over - trust me, it’s much more annoying to get things working for linux than you’d think

You’ll be disappointed with how it runs on windows too.

Hint: it’s not good. Ever since df came out the client has been very choppy.

If i wanted spyware, i wouldn’t be making this thread.

If I know anything about Linux users, they actively want things to not work and be as confusing and tedious as possible so they can feel superior for being the underdogs and maintain their persecution fetish.

That’s not the majority of us. It’s like the 3 gentoo users who are the loudest. I just use Linux mint.

Blizzard has retreated in even supporting Macs.

Think how small THAT user-base is (for games, anyway).

And you think they’re even going to read the title for a thread about Linux support??

el-oh-el

Oh, i got some news for you if Windows is the thing you’re concerned about.

Do you have a smartphone? That’s spying on you, so is your browser (yes, even chromium), facebook, google, hell, even alot of newer cars are sending out data to servers these days.

Your options are get windows or be SOL. Blizzard has said no multiple times, they even trashed their internal linux build.

No i don’t have a smartphone. I use ungoogled chromium. Your assumptions are that of the devs
“Lul you don’t have a phone?” When announcing diablo immortal. The answer is, no i don’t, i value my privacy. If Microsoft tomorrow updated windows to not have all that spyware baked into windows, I’d buy 3 copies for all the computers in my house.

Many also don’t do it the most secure way.

compile off source. read all that stuff…then compile lol. Only way to be 100% sure. fun times that. Linux did make it better. I cut my teeth having fun compiling applications in HP and Sun Unix. those ages…are not missed.

Noting not windows bias here. I have run many CLI only headless servers on linux cores. there it shines.

I need that client hammering our R stat analysis. the end result is a data file of some kind I pipeline elsewhere. the server doesn’t need a gui lol. it crunches inputed numbers… I use windows (used to be MacOS) for that input. file transfer or web interfacing to a say R server.

same for webservers and such.

I like gimp fanatics too. While I view adobe as an evil empire…I have to admit that can do many things gimp can’t.

last time i ran Linux it was the Knoppix one that booted from CD, around the same time when WoW was launched.

You know there’s a way to keep your data private no matter what right? You’re not smart for telling people this.

Let people have agency.

This … would probably work. I’m not familiar enough with the code base to estimate how hard it would be, but in principle it ought to be doable.

Ffxiv now supports Linux with an official launcher. Just putting that out there. Krita is a better editor than gimp to be honest here. It’s not photoshop levels good but it’s way better than gimp is. There’s a lot of tools that you wouldn’t expect to be out on Linux now as there’s companies out there that believe in the end users rights to choose, even if it means they won’t see billions of dollars in revenue. That’s no reason to get all toxic and hurrdurr over me not wanting windows. Sorry i don’t want to be spied on. I might just have to give the ffxiv free trial a go and if i like it, switch giving them my $15 a month instead of blizzard. Sure I’m only one person, but lots of one people can add up quickly. Refuse to grow and change with technology, companies that support the current popular thing end up taking the lions share while you get left asking
“Why do you say we don’t care?”
Because it’s obvious that you don’t care at all. Especially when toxic knee jerk responses like these are given.

I haven’t had issues.

TBF the game performs like crap on Windows too.

many people including myself get lock ups and freezes on new hardware as well. So don’t feel left out too much.

This is my understanding as well. I am sure Blizzard uses Linux for some things, and that various staff probably do for personal use. However, Blizzard does not, and never has, officially supported Linux of any flavor. They won’t commit to making the game work on it officially.

They also have almost zero support for Mac anymore. Most new games at Blizz don’t run on Mac at all.

Then I’ll be switching to ffxiv. I don’t understand why y’all would take such a hard stance against user freedom. That seems really bad.

Na, run 99% of my games fine on my linux…Plus I can rice the hell out of my UI…

For the most part linux run wow just fine
Some setups have a worst time my guess op runs nivida…that doesn’t help much…
