like do we really need it
it just seems like button bloat at that point
its like the most boring ability in game and just makes it annoying to target swap

Or make it actually useful, like a raid wide 5% increased physical damage taken debuff.
The PvP usage is fine. I’ll take anything that helps me kill Rogues.
Yes we do. It is used for marking stealth characters in PvP and for the Pandaria challenge tames at a minimum.
This would be a nice improvement in keeping with the spirit of how the ability was originally designed.
I like that they added it back but i hate the damage bonus. The stealth detection is enough.
Stealth detection without a damage increase makes it worthless in PvE.
If I’m going to have it, I want a reason to use it. I’d also like it to be more than a basic maintenance debuff I’m balanced around having.
If thats the case they need to go back to how it was in MOP where it was automatically applied with the primary DPS spell, so Aimed Shot, Kill Command, and Raptor Strike/ Mongoose bite would apply it.
Then it’s a passive, and not an ability we can use. You would also lose the ability to tag a Rogue and burn their healer in PvP.
How about a separate 0.5s GCD, so you can’t macro it with everything and have to actively choose what target to put it on, but it doesn’t take 10-20 GCDs to have value in terms of damage done?
Hunter feels so abandoned, compared to the other classes, blizzard please listen to the feedback. I’ve literally haven’t met ANYONE who wants hunter’s mark back.
So add a PvE-benefiting utility effect. For example, stealth detection + a 5yd increase to the range of all of our attacks (including melee, for SV, melee having >5yd isn’t unprecedented, see Balance Affinity for Feral), or some other utility benefit that is useful but not mandatory, and also doesn’t directly affect damage done. Another option is a personal bonus to leech on that target, or a small raid-wide leech on damage to that target. Another is providing an increase to our movement speed for a duration after striking the marked target. All 3 fit the theme of a “hunter’s mark”, without directly increasing damage.
What I want is to avoid having a mandatory pre-requisite button I have to press, on every target swap, before I’m allowed to do proper damage. Hunter’s Mark as a purely utility button makes it actually a choice, because you have to make a judgement call as to whether the utility benefits are worth losing that GCD’s worth of damage. That decision has no “correct” answer, because it depends on the player’s judgement of whether DPS or utility is more useful.
When it directly impacts DPS, such as the current version, or the raid-wide damage increase (ala Mystic Touch), there’s a mathematically correct answer in any given situation as to whether it is worth applying or not. For the current Hunter’s Mark, that point is ~15s. If the target is likely to die before that, do not apply it, if the target will live longer than that, apply it. The only “judgement” is estimating how long the target will live, and that’s only relevant for a relatively narrow band of target HP in any given group state. While there’s still technically a “choice” to be made, it’s a choice between a right answer and a wrong answer, rather than a choice between two incomparable effects.
SV had a baseline 3 or 5 yard ranged in legion and honestly moving to BFA i felt the decrease in range to just MELEEE melee. It was an adjustment i’d love to get the little 5 yrd boost to surv back.
Funny you’re posting this on a rogue… salty perhaps?
I’d say im suprised that this is coming from a shaman but its not really that shocking
Rogue or not, as it stands there are hunters out there, including me who don’t want HM to come back as baseline as is.
Worthless in PvE is preferable to adding extra GCD setup.
So you guys are completely opposed to having a useful Hunter’s Mark in PvE if it isn’t passive or off-GCD?
What about a shorter 0.1s GCD or something so you can’t macro it, but it doesn’t eat a full GCD’s worth of damage?
What if it was just the 5% physical damage taken debuff, so no benefit if you run with a Monk, and if you have 3 Hunters, you can have it up on 3 targets and everyone benefits?
There are Anima Powers hooked into it right now so I think Blizz is pretty invested, at least in the short term. Crickets on the alpha forums right now.
Pretty much. I’d rather the damage be baked in and something more interesting put in it’s place like increasing the entire raids range by 3-5 yards, but as it stands having it baseline means that it what our damage is going be balanced on, means if it’s not up we’re going to be doing 5% less damage, means it always has to be up or we’re doing sub-optimal dps.
So you aren’t opposed to useful, just damage based.
3% movespeed from attacks against the marked target, stacks up to 5 times? Lasts 30 seconds or until you attack a different target?
Correct
Sure, that could be interesting.
The whole spell is just useless scrap it and just make the damage baseline
And I’m a rogue, yep - do I hate hunters mark?
No! I’m 100% sure vanish used to wipe off hunters mark and cloak of shadows wipes it off too
I’m with the rogue here. I don’t want hunters mark back. If they are bringing it back then turn off the damage increase so it’s utility vs stealthies only. I don’t want my overall damage nerfed to compensate for an extra gcd move that’s going to be expected it’s just an annoyance to keep up that slows us down even more. The added new gcds to bm already feel crappy
