For the love of god, I love being a sp so much but I absolutely hate Voidform. I don’t play a void Priest I love shadow form and I want to stay in it all the time. I can’t stand the constant in and out of Voidform and the entire system mechanically it really makes me want to just play another class. Can we just get back orbs and Dp? Let’s us cast our dots in shadow form and let them rot ppl down while using our utility to help our team? I don’t want to make a huge post ab this I just wanted to express how much I hate Voidform and miss the old days of orbs and DP in some kind of way. I think everyone hates how sp is except the guy at blitz who came up with Voidform and I swear they are aware we all hate it but cram it down our throat anyway
but voidform is soooo cool!!! REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Orbs are the reason I quit playing SP. Absolute trash in my opinion. And Devouring Plague didn’t even make sense for a Priest to use. Voidform isn’t without its faults but it’s still better than what came before it.
If you want combo points, play a Rogue or Feral. If you want to spread plague and pestilence around, play an Unholy DK. I’m all for asking for improvements, but completely removing what makes SP unique and replacing it with mechanics and concepts that make other specs unique is a big step in the wrong direction.
Shadowpriest isn’t unique because of Void form. Void form makes no sense for shadow priest we have Shadow FORM we don’t need another form.
Pledging full support to:
~remove void form
~remove insanity. I don’t want my char to be “insane” - what happened to controlling the shadow?
~return orbs
~return devouring plague
You mean the spell priests had, up until legion, had access to since vanilla? And had been an iconic part of shadow priest since wrath for both factions, and was the main selling point of being a horde shadow priest in Vanilla and TBC when it was the undead priest racial?
Yeah priest players had no attachment to that at all.
I do somewhat agree with you though, in that generic shadow orb builder spender is not that interesting. But generic orb builder spender isn’t really why anyone wants it back, it’s more about what talents, set bonuses, playstyles, and other mechanics interacted with it during its lifespan.
Personally I miss mind flay insanity, I miss from darkness comes light (Spike procs), I miss having a decent nuke spell that provided self healing in PvP, I miss SWD’s interaction with the pace of the rotation during execute (And the reward it provided for finding SWDs throughout a fight), I miss WoD Auspicious Spirits, I miss the numerous set bonuses that interacted with our spells (BRF, ToT, SOO), and I miss having a coherent PvP spec with setup damage that wasn’t so easy to shut down.
I don’t necessarily miss the disease aspect of devouring plague, I don’t really miss that orbs were essentially combo points (And the UI visual didn’t exactly help). They aren’t all that important, rename devouring plague and find some other way to express our ability to use it that isn’t purple balls.
There’s a world of difference between a racial ability making sense for a single race and trying to shoehorn that same racial ability into the core of the spec for all races. I stand by my statement.
I can get behind everything else in your post, though.
You can, very easily, reframe WoD shadow entirely using legion spells.
SWV: 2 Charges. Generates 20 insanity.
AS: Each apparition generates 20 insanity.
SWD: 2 Charges, generates 20 insanity if used on targets sub 20%.
Devouring Void / Void Entropy / Whatever: Costs 60 sanity, deals on demand damage + dot, heals for damage dealt.
Then make voidform a cooldown (120 or 180 seconds), provide access to void bolt for additional insanity (Replace the cooldown with void bolt for the duration), and probably a small haste + damage buff. Keep the visuals as is.
It’s a bit cumbersome and uses larger than necessary numbers for no good reason, but it’s doable. There’s definitely parts of the WoD rotation that don’t “really” work without using WoD things, namely aspect of the fox in every raid group, and slapping voidform + bolt on like that is definitely betraying the visuals a little (But it does make voidform a genuinely powerful moment in the rotation so there is that.)
DP was around since Vanilla, it’s the reason why you even had horde priests over dwarf. Saying it makes no sense for Priest to use DP is a huge slap in the face to players who fell in love with Spriest before their rework.
How is Voidform better than what came before? Please explain. It’s just like every other class, it’s a build and spend, with the exception of trying to stay in Voidform, but ONLY because of Chorus of Insanity. This mechanic isn’t exactly unique, it’s actually detrimental to the class. Due to the long wind-up of Voidform, Voidform is only really viable in raiding. The long build up makes it a horror to take into a dungeon. The lack of burst makes it lacking in PvP. So if we wanna call shafting SP in dungeons and PvP unique, so be it.
We don’t need orbs. Just put DP on a cd and return the dark archangel animation to it (iirc); return Mind Spike and procs. Make Mind Blast and SW:D hurt again. If you want to make Mind Flay interesting add Mind Trauma to it. Return our utility.
Who even asked for a shadowpriest rework in the first place?
Voidform sucks.
Shadow Orbs also sucked. One of the worst iterations of shadow priest.
Keep it simple. Shadowform, multiple damage over time effects, 1-2 quick bursty spells (eg. Mind Blast and Mind Spike). Shadowfiend I could take it or leave it, not sure how this thing has been a part of our kit for so long because it doesn’t fit in at all thematically.
Shadow priests assault the opponent’s mind… not our own. Let’s go.
Shadowfiend should have been removed when it was demoted to guardian / totem status. As it stands its a dot with an AI that for some inexplicable reason just does less damage than intended because its running after your target.
It doesn’t do anything interesting, it doesn’t get anything from what we do while it’s up. Cooldowns are fun because of the feedback loops / shake ups they create, even abilities similar to shadowfiend (Fire ele, Guardian of ancient kings) provided relevant power increases during their uptime for the player to play around.
I wouldn’t say that. Shadowfiend/mindbender has been incredibly helpful in me being able to solo horrific visions.
Exactly this!
I don’t care what replaces it, just get rid of Voidform.
We’ve had to deal with 2 Expansions of this crap. Just end it already.
Constant player feedback that it doesn’t work, feel good, and that we don’t like it.
Thematically it makes no sense, we are Shadow Priests, not Void Priests. Light projects a Shadow, where there is one there is the other, two sides of the same coin. The Void is the complete lack of everything. There is no light in the Void and therefore no Shadow. I get they wanted us all Old God-dy and having void-like powers made sense when we had Xal’atath in our possession, but we don’t anymore, so why do we still access the Old Gods Power?
GET RID OF VOIDFORM.
I know a lot of the other oldschool priests are tired of Shadowfriend, and I’m tired of it as it is, but I think it would be cool to remove it, and add a talent row that gives us a pet.
This solves the problem of boring old shadowfriend feeling very lackluster, and since it is worth a talent now, means the damage can be non-trivial (which it is currently).
Something like:
-
Shadowfriend - 3m CD - 15s duration - Shadowfiend teleports behind the enemy and repeatedly backstabs them, dealing high single target damage if it isn’t the tank
-
Mindbender - 1m CD - 8s duration - Mindbender channels an Empowered Mind Sear on the target, dealing burst AOE damage
-
Faceless One - lasts until cancelled - Taunts nearby enemies, protecting the Shadowpriest
So now Shadowfriend is more of a rogue, Mindbender is a bladestorm, and Faceless One is our tank pet returned from praying at our Legion class hall
For many raid encounters there are probably good opportunities to get Mindbender to AOE an add pack. Or a priority target you could burst with Shadowfriend, or Faceless One would likely be the highest overall single target damage given it’s long uptime.
For most other content, Mindbender or Faceless One would likely be the best, due to encounter design for all but raid bosses. That means Shadowfriend would need to be appropriately potent to make it competitive.
strongly disagree priest is not a pet class. i think the talnet mindbender should just be baseline this would give the cd a purpose which is to build resources. insanity for shadow and mana or disc/holy.
Drop insanity and void form, and bake in some defense into shadow form.
Bring back shadow orbs.
Bring back devouring plague and turn Psychic Horror back into an orb spender.
Bring back void tendrils and maybe psyfiend or a better spectral guise.
Turn shadow mend back into flash of light, and make instant procs that don’t kill shadow form.
I love you long time.
