This way of thinking is so nonsensical- so because people are unhappy about racism, they shouldn’t get racial representation until they just accept people being racist against them?
Yeah, the ones being left out. What a surprise.
If they were treating it like a game- adding in dark skin tones is just giving people customization.
The people who came to this with the intent of stopping it, who are here because they don’t want other people to have a skin tone option they themselves wouldn’t use are turning this into a battlefield. This never needed to have confrontation to it- there’ve been hundreds of other customization options added to WoW since launch that didn’t get pushback, ONLY dark skin tones got hefty resistance from you people.
And you want to tell me that the people who want dark skin tones added are in the wrong? The lengths to which racist people go to excuse their own racism is absolutely insane.
Dark skin tones is just so woke, existing is truly a threat to you people isn’t it?
Shadowlands arena rating system wasn’t in TBC, nor were boosts and all the other monetization options. If only this community cared half as much about stopping rampant mobile gaming monetization in TBC as they did about stopping players from being able to pick a dark skin tone on their character.
A game full of orcs and elves? And people feel unrepresented? It’s a fantasy game. You’re not supposed to feel represented. You’re supposed to escape reality. Not everything needs real life influences. Blizzard virtue signaling does not make it racist.
This doesn’t make me think of tans/darker pigment, it makes me thing of bright hair, bright skin, bright attire, shiny richly colored jewelry. Silver moon city and it’s inhabitants reflect that clearly.
Erm have you not been paying attention to the forums for the last few months? I have seen hundreds of threads saying why the boost and CE items shouldn’t be in the game and complaining about the character copy service. This is literally the only thread I’ve seen on this topic. So I don’t see where you are saying players don’t care about those things.
When people refer to “woke” they refer to activists pushing a political agenda with racist/supremacist/misandrist objectives in the name of combating racism/supremacy/sexism.
2007 was a simplier time when games didn’t have political themes injected into every pulsing vein.
Requesting the addition of any skin tone to ALL races regardless of logic while other skin tones don’t exist for other races for the same logical reasons is requesting special treatment based on the color of your skin…what would you call this?
Or did that thought not even cross your mind? Self awareness is a rare commodity in 202X
Except those tones do exist, they were added in later showing they are part of the lore.
And if they were to add in white orcs/night elves (which they have btw), I would have done what I did back then- nothing. Never had any issue with different colours of those races being added in, or the people asking for different skin types of mag’har or for nelfs. Never went into threads of people asking for customization and constantly requested Blizz to not give those players what they wanted.
Existing is now special treatment- what a world we live in.
When you find some and come to terms with your views on exclusion, let me know. Remember- you’re the one who is here because you are worried that Blizz might include dark skin tones, that says everything that needs to be said about you.
it would be nice if retail skin colors, hairstyles and haircolors were available to tbc character models without changing the bodies/faces/animations of tbc character models. they could make the textures less defined so the changes wouldnt clash with the older models. but i wouldnt want the new models otherwise.
skin color/ hair color / hairstyle though, would be awesome
Yes, 2007: the release year of the well known apolitical game Bioshock.
lol
The comments in this thread are ridiculous. It’s easy to shoot down a reasonable request for representation when you have never dealt with a lack of representation yourself.
Some people want a complete escape into being a different person in a fantasy world. Others want their character to be a powerful representation of themselves. Either is fine. I don’t see why anyone should oppose adding more skin colors as doing so takes nothing away from anyone else.
I’m not asking for them to remove light skins, I’m not asking for them to make Jaina black or change any official characters like they do in tv/movies. Just asking that the character I make, that has no effect on anyone else- I can make black.
And really, to everyone out there who doesn’t think it’s important- why are you posting about how you don’t want it included? It’s important enough to you to NOT have it included that you need to argue against it, and you can’t see why to others it’s something that it is important to have included?
You’re here acting like if Blizzard makes the change and says so, that everyone has to agree because they’re right. I wonder if you would cite Blizzard’s decision as a justification for your own argument if you disagreed with them?
Some people prefer races in the game to reflect the lore, you can dispute what that means in terms of available skin tones, but that isn’t the point. Just want to point out Blizzard took this stance and suddenly changed their minds during a time period where certain things were happening in the real world. I wonder if they suddenly had a change of heart, or if it was a way to garner support with the popular ideology at the time?
Before I get called names, I don’t care either way. I’m just not naive enough to actually believe Blizzard made these changes for the reasons you think they did. They made them in an effort to avoid the loss of business and/or to stand out in a good light amongst all the outrage that was going on at the time, and still is now. It was all about money, not doing the “right” thing.
