works EXACTLY like that on every forum I admin and own.
Not been a problem.
If we cant get along, no reason for either of us to see…or be in…eithers discussions
here are my thoughts…
account wide ignore should be implemented.
but you are unable to view the ignored person’s post in any way.
no hidden messages to view… they are just gone.
if the ignored person starts a thread on any alt, that thread is just automatically muted for you.
Posters talk to one another.
Either on here or through 3rd party sites, coordinating their efforts to essentially lock the forums down with synchronized ignores.
Then I would question if those truly are trying to be public forums, and aren’t just social networks in disguise.
we would be giving you what you want, right?
you want to ignore someone completely - so you click ignore on a character and you ignore all of their alts as well.
it’s only fair that you cannot see any hidden messages and all their threads (on all alts) are automatically muted for you (and your alts).
a true account wide ignore.
If everyone ignores you the problem isn’t with them it’s with you.
I think what Im seeing from BOTH sides here is…this forum ISNT REALLY that bad and maybe we’re blowing it up into something it isnt.
So if we’re hating on each other and you still want to see my posts if I block you…you dont really want the blocks as much as we’re claiming in here.
Some from both sides have shown disdain for my two way twitter block. Thats fine, everyone has their own opinion.
But lets be honest…what that is saying is they ARENT REALLY wanting to just block people who disagree with them out of view.
This is solidified beyond argument in the fact that we havent ALL just blocked each other in here.
Few if any blocked my Tauren Hunter. Few if any blocked Raist and a dozen other characters theyve realized were my alts over the years in here.
Lets just admit we disagree, heatedly at times, and also admit that while we do that, we dont REALLY believe this forum and our fellow gamers are THAT bad in here except are the rare occasion something like that “T” trolling thing happens.
By and large we disagree but CLEARLY dont want to block, or be blocked, in here, otherwise EVERYONE would be jumping at the idea of a two way block so you never have to see each other again.
Until people go on to ignore anyone who has an opinion that isn’t the collectives.
Causing new problems on the forums and making the outlook on the game look even more disjointed.
And again, why aren’t they doing that now?
yep, that’s the entire point of a forum.
ignoring a poster, does not impact their ability to post.
i feel like you don’t know how this works…
that’s true. people think that if we just had “btags” or if we just had “account wide ignore” their takes would be more well received.
there’s a very deep seated conspiracy that people have that everyone who disagreees with them on the forums is just one account with many many alts. the idea people have is that one person with many many alts is the only reason their posts and replies are not universally accepted.
Some already do, there just aren’t any systems in place yet to enforce it on their end.
Which these proposed system changes to the forums will enable posters to do.
How would that change it other than there’s less need to repeat ignores?
As I said it’ll be coordinated, posters won’t need legitimate reason to indirectly censor others opinions.
Which will create collectives and echo chambers that excludes posters that don’t agree with them.
Muddling up the flavor of feedback on these forums.
People already don’t need a good reason to throw someone on ignore. So, there ya go…
Also, there’s already echo chamber now, and other things. Down with sockpuppeting!
You still haven’t explained why this change would suddenly create this thing that has not yet been an issue even with an existing ignore system
It’ll create a more tangible divide on the forums as collectives seek to gain control of it.
Not sure where certain people even get that you should have to have a reason to ignore them, it’s a personal choice if you want to ignore someone just because you should be allowed to, legit.
Why would they do so? And how would they when there is a pretty active forum population. I mean, you might get a small group that locks themselves out of discussions, but with the way even people who agree on some topic will disagree, sometimes heavily on how it should happen, it’s a losing battle to try and think you can create a unified bloc to control the forums.
It just doesn’t seem to be an actual threat other than that maybe a few people will decide they want to block some other people in common. And, well, so what? They don’t have to listen to people they don’t have to, and no one has the right to force their voice on to someone who doesn’t want to hear it in here.
Would love this. I had to go through and re-ignore a ton of toxic people when I got a name change. Same character and everything. Why is that a thing?
