Can we get a response on Hunter Feign death

Honestly i dont remember FD ever working in pvp. No one was dumb enough to allow it. Soon as target lock broke from FD they would just click on me again before i could do anything.
In pve the only time i needed to drop a second trap was when i was fighting mobs literally one level below conning skull to me so im not seeing much of a problem.

If you couldn’t drop a trap in vanilla after feign, PEBKAC

Feign Death takes you out of combat, you dummy.

I fooled a couple, when I’d try at like 2% but usually by then I’d be dot’ed up enough I was dead anyway.

That’s a good attitude to have, but honestly it feels terrible when you hit 30, learn FD, think to yourself ‘at last, I can get those damned melee off me’, write your macro, try it out a few times think ‘damn I’ve really lost my knack after all these years I swear it wasn’t this hard’, keep trying. Almost never works. Realise it’s not you, it’s the game. Should have rolled a mage.

Decent hunters had FD/Trap macros that would instantly drop the trap, it was a huge part of the class meta in PvP against melee classes. There wasn’t enough time to react, it was instant.

Use a macro that puts pet on passive and has a stopcasting or clear target command

Most times i didnt even finish the falling down animation before i was back in combat. /shrug. I still dont think its a game breaker. I did fine in pvp without relying on it before I’ll do fine now. Granted im not doing the rank 14 grind.

Not related to the issue. Feign doesn’t drop combat even with no pet out.

The reason you think this is an issue is feign takes too long to drop combat, so your pet attacks and puts you back in combat before you can trap.

You are talking about a solution to workaround the bug.

We all know the solution, you don’t need to repeat it to us.

We are talking about fixing the bug.

Is it due to spell batching as someone else said?

How would they fix that? They couldn’t revert the way spells are cast for all classes I don’t think

This is actually important, as is turning off auto attack. Even when I cannot physically reach my target, have not ever hit my target, and have not aggroed my target in any way shape or form, simply having my auto attack toggled puts me in combat without letting me charge. Toggling it back off/clearing target instantly drops combat, so it must be client side.

I have no clue whether this was standard behavior in vanilla. I can’t remember after 14 years. But it may be affecting hunter feign death/trap too like it currently impacts warrior charge.

No one knows why, just theories.

Must be something about the way spells are processed between vanilla and retail

Yes, this is what we’d like to be able to do, hence these threads. Currently that does not work. You have to remain feigned for a number of seconds before you leave combat. Assuming the person your fighting with is playing with their monitor turned on, they’re not likely to courteously wait those 2 or 3 seconds for you to be able to trap them. I find they usually kill me instead.

It feels as delayed as being able to execute does. I wonder if it’s related/related to spell batch

So would scatter +FD + trap even still work or is even that too slow to allow FD???

Imagine having the entire viability of your class dependent on fake dying lol you hunters are something else. Reroll!

I don’t have scatter so I can’t say, but assuming they don’t wander out of trap range during the scatter you should be able to occasionally pull it off in a 1v1. You should be out of combat before the scatter wears off 9 times out of 10.

I have not once been able to fd/trap someone like I used to be able to very consistently. I can’t explain the “why” but I would agree something isn’t working properly.

Has anyone submitted a formal bug report on it?
