All I was doing was giving you the source. I agree with a lot of what you said and I will just say again Gnomes should just be deleted. But I do not think every race should be every class.
I do not think that Wargen should be Shamans. DH’s should only be elves and yes bring in Nightborne and Void Elves into the fold. Although blizzard messed up their lore big time with Allied races being able to be certain specs. They could have fixed it to keep it with lore but then you get the people that scream lore doesn’t matter just give me what I want.
But that is a different argument. Blizzard caused by not following their own lore. Which opens up another argument.
So all of what I typed to say I agree with you on not all races should have all classes, that blizzard really needs to work on respecting their lore and imo Change some of the lore mess ups with some allied races and specs.
Yeah, that’d work for Evoker, which is inherently a weird one since the class and race are intertwined mechanically, not just lore-wise. (Also more visages would be pretty cool).
But for anyone else, just open it up. We got Draenei Warlocks, who cares if we get Undead Paladins and Human Druids at this point.
Well this was an issue even back in og vanilla when the game first came out. So the lore for undead using holy abilities that that it causes them sever pain and can sometimes restore their sense so they could sometimes smell the stink of their rotting flesh. They could taste it in their mouths.
According to blizzards lore which you can find this in game during legion when Blizzard had us helping Turalyon find Alleria Windrunner we were ambushed and Alleria had to help us but when Turalyon touched Alleria for the first time in how many years because the Prime Naaru had Turalyon lock up Alleria in the brig of the crystal ship they were using for using void/shadow abilities and dabbling into the void/shadow. When they touched it caused an explosion that burned both of their hands. They can never touch again.
So a Void Elf that becomes a priest should explode when you use holy abilities. According to the lore that is in the game in legion. Now also look at Fel which IIRC is one of the main powers of demons that is the left over residue from The Light and The Void fighting.
Blizzard could fix these but it would take time to get this lore straightened out. And again how can other Races be evokers when one of their abilities is where they jump up fly forward while breathing fire in front of them. Sorry I just do not see Evoker being any other race than Dracthyr.
Just make it so you can customize literally everything. Pick your class, your race, your abilities, your passives, your appearance, everything. Isn’t there a nostalrius rip off right now that basically does the same thing?
While we are at allow us to choose our weapon types and if our abilities will work with them. For ex build a paladin that uses a bow or dw and has charge or leap. Also take mage food and windfury while we are at it. Also instead of holy damage make it shadow and take shadow form
I 100% get what you’re saying and in most circumstances, I’d definitely agree with you. But I think that the OP was pointing out Blizzards’ own track record of ignoring the lore when it was convenient for them. When questioned about it in the past their generic answer was “a wizard did it” and made the change they wanted to make.
The only consistency they have shown with their lore is to ignore it when they want to, and other times tell the players certain races can’t be X class because that’s lore breaking.
If Blizzard had stuck to their guns on the lore all this time, you and I would be 100% on the same page; but Blizzard can’t use lore restrictions as a reason not to do something, when they themselves have broken or retconned their lore on many occasions, many times without explaining how it doesn’t actually break the lore, instead going back to the aforementioned excuse.
I’m with the OP on this; if Blizzard can ignore their lore for gameplay reasons when they want to, there’s no reason not to remove race and class restrictions.
At this point, the best solution they could do is not make NPCs/Lore to represent Class + Races restrictions that make no sense but still allow players to make whatever race + class combo they want.
Basically, by not acknowledging invalid race + class combinations, they give players what they want while preserving the integrity of the World of Warcraft universe. Cultural differences are what made the World of Warcraft feel lived in and dropping those barriers defies what WoW is at its core.
There’s just never going to be great justification for Blood Elf Druids/Shamans, Goblin Druids/Paladins, Lightforged Warlocks/Death Knights/Druids/Shamans, Mechagnome Druids, etc. Expansion of Warlocks was bad lore, Expansion of Death Knights was bad lore and the Expansion of other classes will also be bad lore.
Blizzard could still add the class/race combo. Maybe it looks weird, but you can use all skills similar as when using the prisma or recalibrator toy to be a Drakthyr monk.
The missing animations can be backfilled by Blizzard later, but this should be no blocker preventing to play a Drakthyr monk if someone wants that.
Plus, Dracthyr Rogue doesn’t have a sprint animation. They just run fast. Looks goofy AF, but I don’t see anyone really complaining about it. There are animations they can use from other skeletons/spell combos to make it work.
And yeah, they are dropping the restriction, but doing all at once isnt good for marketing, they can do like for a big patch or an expansion to draw more people win.
Forsaken Paladin. Do it. My character can even say ouch every 10 seconds, I wouldn’t care. Everyone else would but that’s the price you pay for lore-accurate characters.
