i get your attachment to the world and story but blizzard just doesn’t have that same amount of passion and care as you do so if they care that little it tells me i shouldn’t bother getting invested
i frankly don’t think it makes sense to give demon hunters to all races. but i think orcs and draenei, both of whom have deep ties to outland and lasting bones to pick with the demons now on the run in the wake of the legion’s downfall, would be great candidates to become illidari. i think there is simply a way to handle more races being more classes which doesn’t mandate everything for everyone, and also frankly that a certain lack of creativity is what impedes these conversations most
I imagine that Blizz is like the rest of us, in that some of them care about one thing and others another. I doubt they are all identical in their passions.
They need to make it interesting, not just homogenize everything and make it boring. Yes, all races should be able to be all classes, but it shouldn’t be easy for everyone. A Forsaken should have a difficult time being accepted as a Paladin. A Blood Elf should have to prove themselves worthy of even being trained as a Druid.
Add challenges to certain races becoming certain classes so that everyone can be anything, but still keep true to the lore with difficulties that make sense, and add to the RPG element of the game.
I would agree that they make more sense than most. They’d still need to change the story about who Illidan trained. For us to start seeing dozens of them around Dornogal, he’d have had to train dozens. Why, in the original story, did he only train elves? It was never stated explicitly. There are a couple of possible explanations:
- Kaldorei, in Illidan’s time, were a dominant empire and more than a little bit full of themselves. It’s possible Illidan just believed them superior. He openly admired the first human he met, however, and first dragon, so I doubt it’s this simple.
- Elves, in general, seem much more genetically malleable in WoW. They mutate all the time, from trolls into Night Elves into High Elves, Blood Elves, Void Elves, Naga… Expose an elf to new energies for a while and they mutate, like eggs dipped in dye. That might make them easier for Illidan’s particular transformation than other stock.
- Illidan himself had been transformed by Sargeras, and perhaps his understanding of how to do this was based in his personal transformation. So he used stock similar to himself.
All that said, we know he performed other experiments on orcs, and that he was familiar with Draenei morphing into Broken. Which could mean he’d learned by trial and error they would not transform the way he need for DHs, or could lay the groundwork for saying he actually did. If this was my D&D campaign, and I was GM, I would stick with the former.
eh. i frankly think you could also just chalk it up to a certain preference towards elves on illidan’s part because he might just be maladjusted; the illidari high council was entirely blood elves. plus, illidan isn’t really the working leader of his own order at the moment, and this is the writers’ sandbox, not ours. jace could have devised a new means of transformation that would work perfectly well on its own. alternatively, they could recruit man’ari penitents or illidari fel orcs from outland, both of whom would be viable physiologically and politically. they might be even more outcast than elven illidari, but it could easily be done.
Lightforged Warlocks were easily done, but did it make the story better?
i mean either way, the idea of ‘that doesn’t make sense’ when the first expansion of the game features slaughtering a resurrected bug empire to get to a lovecraft tentacle monster does seem a bit odd to me
this is just a bad false equivalency and frankly i don’t even think lightforged warlocks are bad, people just soil their pants very easily these days. i will grant that ph’el oman was probably not the best possible way to introduce the character’s archetype, but even as far back as the old rpg, the big difference between a warlock and a mage is the extent to which they channel magic. lightforged demonologists studying the ranks of the legion and how to enslave and bind them for the benefit of the light works just fine. y’all who get so mad about these new race/class pairings have the options to, of course, play older iterations of the same game which blizz is shamelessly profiteering, or even just the rts
How much gold to get nelf pally? I’m willing to do anything blizzard… Anything
I say this in every thread about this subject. Once we got Draenei Warlocks, any pretense of class/race restrictions went out the window.
If you want a “lore justification”, you don’t have to go any further than “races aren’t a monolith and adventurers are naturally inclined to break from the norms of their race and learn druidism as a human or whatever”.
The only reason class restrictions exist now is because the remaining missing class restrictions have a significant amount of art assets that would need to be made, like Paladin Mounts, Shaman Totems and Druid forms.
Though TBH just make a “default” Druid form and then add a race-specific form later.
They don’t but for theme they really do. And speaking of Shamans what got me was that Night Elves can not be Shamans. Neither can Blood Elves which just doesn’t make sense as Blood Elves are so power hungry that they would take any power as long as it is power.
Again for theme they do.
So for this yes Demon Hunters should only be elves. But bring in the Nightborne and the Void Elves.
Well the Dracthyr use elemental magic and they can not be Shamans either which is just stupid imo.
Blizzard would have to give every race a glide and somehow make them capable of flame breath like dragons are, as one of their abilities is they jump up and glide forward while breathing fire.
There are a lot of things I agree with you on in reason but some things just shouldn’t be. Personally I think DH should only be elves. Bring in any current and future elves into the fold but only elves.
Paladins all races should be able to be paladins. FFS Blood Elves stole the power to be Paladins from a Naaru that was held in Silvermoon until the events of the Sunwell. So why cant Blood Elves be Shamans. The only class they can’t be is Shaman, Druid and Evoker.
When vulpera came out I was hoping they could be Paladins. But I will just say it Gnomes just are the worst race ever(lol Sorry couldn’t resist. Been horde since the game came out so almost no experience at playing alliance races.)
Speaking of allied races When the horde unlocked Mag’har orcs they set up for the introduction of Lightforged Orcs, and the race of cat people that came through the portal. Been waiting for those to come into the game for a while now.
TBH this is an easy(ish) fix by treating them like Druids, where the Dragon abilities are a class-exclusive mechanic and the “lore” justification is you’re not an Orc, you’re a Dracthyr with an Orc visage.
1.) I dont care what people have to say about this. It’s always a weak argument.
“Every race should be every class because… IT JUST SHOULD OkAy!!”
2.) “This furry on TWITTER RPS as a paladin so i should too!”
I don’t want Orc paladins, I don’t want Goblin demon hunters. I don’t want gnome druids. Sick of the meme niches from casual players. “ALL CLASSES ARE COMING” according to what exactly?
I know blizzard already has zero respect for lore and IP but if all classes can be everything just spit on it even further.
“Paladins don’t need mounts! shamans don’t need totems! they don’t need forms! when I play a gnome druid i’m ok with it being a night elf model!”
you know what i want? I want MORE restictions. I want races that can only be one class. I want classes unique to a specific race.
I want Night elf wardens only for night elf, i want shadow hunters only for trolls
I want Orc blade master, I want Goblin and Gnome Tinkers, I want Goblin and Undead Apothecary, I want Blood elf ranger. I want Treents to be playable but they can only be druids.
Guess what, you can already be any race and any class, there’s a glyph that does it.
Also, once again, “Why can’t blood elves use dirt magic, why can’t alliance be high elves” again and again and again and again and again.
Blood elves cant be shamans or druids for the same reason a majority of Americans aren’t celtic or pegans. It’s not in their BELIEF system, it’s not important to them.
Also, funny to me that the Elf players are like “THEY CAN LITERRALLY BE ANYTHING BESIDES THESE 3 CLASSES!!” Yeah and in cata Trolls and dwarves COULD nearly be anything besides 1 class. Dwarves couldn’t be druids and Trolls couldn’t be paladins.
The people who want this type of stuff are the same people who think all priests are the same even though priests are suppose to represent spiritual leaders of each race not “light worshippers” which is why when you talk to the Orc NPCS that are now “priests” they don’t mention the light, they mention spirit and ancestors. you just want to take your generic common meta knowledge of the universe and dumb it down for people who can actually enjoy subtle lore nodes. You literally want “Blood elf can be druid because uh nature” “Gnome can be druid because idk, reasons” It makes the game more generic, it makes the setting less subtle and it turns the game into MCU movie where everything you see is what you get.
Then all you would have to do is open up different Visage’s instead of allowing the different races to be Evokers. This would keep you from getting the passives but that would be a better fix then just opening up evoker class to all races.
Blizzard made a statement that they are working on opening up all classes for all races. But back when TBC was going to be launched they also said that they were going to open up the dances for your character and allow them to be changed that never happened but it was promised.
This said I do agree with you. I do not think all races should have access to all classes.
how about this for a take, there should be no classes, at all. Lets use the same arguements.
Lore doesn’t matter, Let players make their own class from GENETIC abilities, get rid of flavor starting with the plunderstorm baseline. If you want to be a melee class now, you’re just a warrior that can stealth or not stealth.
If you want to be a mage or warlock you’re just a caster now. You can fire ball things
If you want to heal you can now heal with generic abilities .
everyone gets a kick and a engage and 2 defensives.
Now everyone can be everything and lore doesn’t matter. Hey it would probably make it really easy to balance too. 4 classes instead of what we have now.
The restrictions are the only things preventing everyone from being the same overpowered races.
Eliminate all racials, and maybe everything could be opened up. Maybe.
Probably the easiest way of doing it, yeah.
Yep just saying for Evoker if you want the appearance of playing other races as some people will say that Race Racials do not matter well then just open up the different visages and you have done it.
And speaking of Racials they need to remove the human racial for the pvp trinket that is op but so is humans getting reputation faster than all other races imo.
