You seem to have your head on what is actually VE customization vs what is clearly not VE customization, and don’t try to suger-coat on it on being customization for VE’s when they are not.
Honestly though i gave up on VE’s being a thing since they clearly gotten taken over by the HE crowd.

If we got substantial customization like Fel Blood with a crap ton of customization I wouldn’t care a bit about High Elves on the Alliance.
ngl there’s nothing the helfers could suggest I would consider an acceptable compromise because they want to hog farstriders (my belf is and will always be a hunter).
As much as I think the faction barriers are and have always been played out, the way the helf crowd has always demanded things has always been at the expense of the other elven subraces (not necessarily in terms of unique stuff but in terms of demanding stuff be made retroactively exclusive to them; some of the mmoc helfers mentioned by OP still act like night elves being the main elven druid race was stealing from them personally)
they are not different at all.
RP problems have RP solutions. if you’re annoyed that the eye color of your elf is slightly different from what you think it should be, find an RP solution.
Hello, I’m a high elf and playable on the Alliance. 
High Elves are already playable in the form of customizations for Blood and Void Elves.
It’s very similar to Wildhammer in that they exist as customization options for Dwarves.
There’s no need to add another race for something that is of minimal difference, especially when the character creation screen is cluttered enough as it is.
Here they are, high elves.
Pick a faction.
you are a void elf.
void and blood elf, not high elf.

If you want to play High Elves, the majority of the race now call themselves Blood Elves.
If you want to remain Alliance they now have Void Elves. Which can remove pretty much all of the void appearance and just have to deal with the racial animation happening from time to time.
