Can We Build a Home?

Fancy term for an mmo?

Yeah that worked so well with Valor and other stuff right?

The studio’s description is:

Palia is a massively-multiplayer community simulation game

So no. I hope it’s not some sort of SIMS thing or something.

The best we can do right now is find an empty cabin and pretend it’s ours.

By the sound of it Palia is more like Animal Crossing or Story of Seasons. An MMO version, though I think they said there would be a single player option too.

But yeah it’s likely going to be a very different game than WoW, not nearly as action-oriented. More slice of life.

That actually sounds delightful.

I’ve never played those. But I’ll keep an eye on this new thing. See if it’s interesting to me. Thx for the description! That helps!

Player housing is cool in theory, but I find three clear issues that are in every iteration.

Everyone gets the same garrison, but little real effort is involved. No one’s satisfied except maybe orcs and humans, since it caters only to their aesthetic.

Some aesthetics, but you’ll never get exactly what you want. I’m thinking EQ2 or SWTOR. Grinding is involved, which you find yourself not caring about because it’ll never be just how you want it.

More aesthetics than you could ever dream of. Think FF14. Massive grind, however, and all of this begs the question, even should you get the home of your dreams, how long before it isn’t just another place to zone into? How long before there’s literally no way to improve it.

So I remain skeptical, though like I said in theory it’s a nice idea. I’d love actual neighborhoods instead of everyone living in the same instance, not sure that’s been tried since, like, SW Galaxies maybe?

They mentioned wanting it to be a completely different style of MMO.

Palia is definitely on my radar. A big perk to it (right now) is it’s privately funded, so none of that “backers can spend $200 for early beta access and all of these cosmetics that look way better than anything in the game currently!” And also just having a game where the objective is collaboration rather than dissension sounds amazing.

And above all that, I’m hoping the laid back nature of the game and the style will keep the toxicity at bay. Unlikely, but a gal can hope.

It does! I’m looking forward to trying it too. I love those kind of life games.

I’m waiting for it to be labeled a “WoW killer” when they’re nothing remotely alike.

I remember when people were saying that about Valheim earlier this year lol

If they ever did do player housing. It would have to be instanced where you walk
through a gate in town. Otherwise there would be way too many houses
in the open world. You also would have to expect a group of idiots would
build a houses where ever it would be in the way the most.

There is a way to do player housing without a physical presents ,since wow is mostly is about magic induced potentials why not have tit where you can travel with it and when your ready just port there in this magic place. No need for neighborhoods in or near cities.

No life game will ever kill this game, because like you said they are two different things. I greatly enjoy the action as well as the immersion of MMOs. You couldn’t pay me to play a game like the Sims though. My dude will be forever peeing himself next to the toilet.

I’m not saying I could never enjoy a life game (OG animal crossing was alright for a minute), but they are a very different experience.

Yes, I’m very much looking forward to Palia! I can hardly wait!

That’s not the issue. And Garrisons were phased. So that’s also a possibility.

The issue is we know Blizzard. They suck at choices. You’ll either be limited to some stupid apartment in your main city or one same plot of land that is buildings only for your faction or race with no variety.

I like housing. I don’t trust Blizzard to do it.

I don’t need a home, I live under a bridge in Mulgore.

I don’t know why people keep beating this dead horse. Blizz obvs doesn’t want housing in the game. WildStar should have told you that.
That game was created by WoW devs that were sick of the way Blizzard did things, and wanted to start over with an MMO. And they created an AWESOME housing system. If Blizz wanted that in the game, they would have let those devs do it.

But of course, WildStar failed, and failed hard. So maybe the Blizz execs knew what they were doing by not implementing the ideas those devs had.

For the longest time I always thought player housing was just a massive waste of time and just rolled my eyes when anyone asked for it. Then I played games like Aion and SWToR that have really nice player housing and I loved it. So I wouldn’t mind seeing WoW add it but I know it is not a huge priority thing. It would be nice if they carved out some QOL stuff in the next expansion, like armor dyes and playing housing.

I feel the same way - then I run into the invisible walls in Boralus, and the dream dies

I really hope that one day Blizzard might finally do Player Housing it’s been way too long to not have this in the game.
