It actually is a slur and it’s casual and frequent use is concerning. It’s not trolling to expect women to be treated with dignity and respect. Even if they’re old and white.

Bigot isn’t a slur. It’s a noun that describes a person who is stubborn in their own beliefs and predjudices and intolerant of differing points of view or opinions.
ETA: most of the actual bigots here and irl are the ones who don’t think they are and are quick to use the term for anyone they disagree with.

I don’t think they were intending on any meaningful conversation to be honest, that’s why they’ve tried to derail the thread multiple times. Wild that they STARTED this conversation and soon after, didn’t want it anymore.

My I guess one could call it hobby is to understand rhetorical patterns in common discursive content (debates, news articles, etc.). So I know a lil’bit about how and when folks try to say this, as well as the dog whistle that they are invoking at the same time.
I can, sadly, attest to this not being an unusual thing for people to say. It is a very particular subcategory of people who engage in this kind of rhetorical trolling. Commonly combined with racism, transphobia, or any myriad of different things. In short, because they often use slurs and bigotry to “justify” themselves, they are basically just trying to appropriate the language to dodge easy dismissals as biased, irrational, and hateful.
Similar to what the OP of the thread is doing if you want another example. It is all tied together, sadly.
