Can i disable the 'potentially offensive message' nonsense?

thank you for an actually reasonable take.

… which also means you are liable to have this post flagged for being offensive.

you aren’t advocating for slurs.

Not if you actually try and understand my point.

Forcing nondental hygiene chemicals into your child’s mouth against their wishes. There probably should be a law against that.

Don’t mix up being polite in public with censoring ideas. One can express any idea they want, without breaking the rules. People don’t need the profanity to express an idea.

Now, topics here need to stick to WoW, but within that, people are free to discuss game aspects. What they can’t do is swear about it or attack others personally.

yes your point is people should be able to say those slurs and then tell anyone that doesn’t like them to go away.

the censorship the left fought against (and still fights against) is the kind where the government locks you up for criticizing them.

the left never fought for anybody’s right to scream violent threats at gay people.

you’re conflating two completely different uses of the word “censorship”.

I am 100% in agreement with this. My only point is the flipping of values us progressives had had recently with our stance on censorship. I find it weird.

I value politeness very highly, and see far too much meanness and garbage thrown at people. I still, however, bristle when large organizations impose limits on expression. But even then, I understand and agree with Blizzard’s right to limit what can be said on their platforms…whether or not I like it.

100% incorrect. I’m sorry if I wasn’t clear enough for you.

I accept your failure in communication

It was also church groups getting things banned, TV stations censoring ideas and opinions, etc.

I’m certainly not talking about people’s rights to scream violent threats at anybody! lol

Exactly. The government shall not lock people up for speaking out against the govt or leaders!

You want to personally confront and attack people. No, that is not ok. Leave people alone.

If you want to stand outside with a picket sign protesting laws then I am 100% for your right to do that, even if I disagree with the sentiments. Nobody should be putting you in jail for that.

I won’t say I support you disparaging individuals. That is just plain wrong.

so you are ok with some censorship?

im not sure they were ‘right’ so much as fanatics, but i concede your point. im not gonna be put in the rack till i die for my words (though i genuinely wonder how many would do so if they could)… but by the same token, todays censorship is far more reaching. blasphemy was fairly specific, and outside of that anything was allowed. but today you run the risk of being censored in many many different facets.

so i argue it is farm more reaching, if less dire in execution.

To clarify, since you replied directly to me, I have not done this to my children, I am however old enough to remember this being done, to me, as a child 45+ years ago.

That’s what I meant by

remember when dungeons and dragons, harry potter, and anything fantasy was targeted to be censored?

come on.

far reaching?

your only examples are what? being able to insult trans people?

Do you always have trouble with nuance? Everything is not black and white.

To answer your question, yes, I am ok with censorship on some level. I would have to be! There is a line, but it is fuzzy, grey, and nobody can agree where it lies. My entire point is the flip-flop we have done with our stance on it over the last decade-ish.

When it is large wealthy groups doing it, it is a harder pill to swallow. The government, large corporations, the Church, etc…

stating facts is not insulting. only people who equate those two have no concept of reality.

those things were targeted, yes… and as i pointed out earlier the ‘karens’ were largely ignored. whereas today they are driving the bus.

See? We are speaking the same language, brother.

im not anti trans, im pro mental health.

edit - look, let me be clear. and this is the last thing imma say on the subject. if someone thinks they are a dolphin you are NOT helping them by surgically altering their body to match their ‘feelings’. but therapy would help them come to terms with not being a dolphin.
