Can I delete this character, use the name on an alt, and restore with name change later?

Mastadon is correct insofar as PvP realms can only have one faction present in Classic, and that is determined by the faction of the first character you created on that realm.

If it is a PvE realm, that restriction isn’t present.

The character’s name is currently in use by a Human Paladin on your WoW#2 license.

Yuppers but now my mages is gone forever? Ive had it deleted for a while now but I didnt want to lose the mage… Im thinking I might just be SOL and will have to pick a diff name for my pally.

If you intended to use the name for the Paladin on that server, yes, that is possible. If you wish to restore the Mage you’ll need remove the naming conflict.

Sad day :frowning:

What happens if you delete a lvl 70 and someone makes a character with that name the next day? Can you restore your character?

Please make note of how old a thread is before reviving it. Anything over a week or two can be considered a necro, and despite what our local Warlocks like to espouse, necro-ing things are bad.

Names are locked to an account for thirty days (if they’re above a certain level - 70 would definitely be), so your question is kind of moot in thinking someone else can snatch up a name. They’ve fixed it so that people can’t finagle a free name change this way. There would be an error or something that would prevent you from restoring the deleted character if it held the same name as another on your roster. If you want to swap names around, you’ll have to pay for it rather than creative deleting and such.

As Leilleath mentioned, if you delete a level 30+ character, that character’s name would be reserved for 30 days. So you’d be able to restore that character within 30 days without having to worry about a naming conflict. Unless you created a character with the same name. If you did on Classic Era or Burning Crusade Classic, that naming conflict would need to be resolved before you could restore the character.
