Most bosses in TBC can hit too hard to not have a shield equipped (1-shot levels of damage). Also with the new prot talents and Shield slam scaling, The bonus threat you would gain would be marginal at best while you would take a huge hit to your mitigation.

That depends. You can do karazhan with two arms/prot tank, two ret healers and six mages via ape spaz and flash heal spam

Anything else… not really. Perhaps gruul/mag.

Gorefiend doesn’t hit exceptionally hard among TBC bosses. They mostly all do stupidly high amounts of melee damage. Probably as a reaction to vanilla.

Most people are main tanking vanilla right now with ~11,000 HP in Naxxramas. In TBC you might have ~20,000, ~25,000 at most. But boss melee damage is going up 500%.

I seem to recall that appropriately geared/speced tanks were required in heroics… Even at the end of the xpac. Some really geared tanks would putnon some DPS gear to help with threat, but had proper specs.

I tried tanking heroics as ret and as holy, with prot gear. Failed
I recall a tank showing up in full pvp gear, and supposedly in prot spec. That was a fail

Our bear tank had pvp gear on and was fine and I was boomy doing dps kek.

In TBC Feral PVP gear is very good…like BIS levels of good for tanking.

Soon as the pre-patch talents hit and war can spec 8/8 t3 and not have to worry about threat. The fury prot spec is gonna die. it’s to bad misdirection is a 70 hunter spell would make full prot tanks even better.

Fury prot will get you slapped in about ~5 seconds. If you’re not wearing a shield with prot talents to increase block chance/value, you dead homie.
