Can BLIZ make WOW open source please?

I would like to see WOW become open source software so any of us proficient in COBOL can make enhancements to the game including more customization options since BLIZ doesn’t seem interested in doing it themselves.

They’d have to monetize it somehow.

Probably a player-made Market Place where people can sell the customizations they’ve created for a couple of dollars, and Blizzard gets like, 25% of the sales or something. Probably higher than that, but you get the idea.

That’s fine I just want embiggened tendrils and a longer tail.

I’m not sure if paywalling customizations is fine or not, but hey, send a letter to Bobby Kotick. If he smells money he’ll tell Ion to get working on it immediately. Might push 9.0.5 or 9.1 back a few months.

I gotta be honest, after checking this post https://www.reddit.com/r/wow/comments/lojxsp/having_given_a_large_amount_of_feedback_on_player/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

I completely agree.
The amount of work(Or rather, lack there of) Blizzard puts into WoW is quite concerning for a company of their size.

I know it’s still early so this is presumptuous to say but I think you just locked in worst idea of 2021.

and I would love for a magic fairy to pop out of the sky in a shower of sparkles and rainbows, wipe out covid, world hunger, and finally answer “Who shot laura palmer”

of the two scenarios, mine is more likely to happen than yours.

It is a good idea though.

What? You don’t want the option to spend $3 to look like a Disney Tauren?

BLIZ could have a really amazing MMO if they let the community improve it. They might as well open it up.

Imagine how fast the old world would be updated if they did this.

It leaves lots of open holes for people to do other things that may get outta hand. There is a reason it isn’t ‘open source’ and while I agree they have slimmed down the amount of stuff they do, I’m fine with them having control over it instead of letting it loose to the public.

Can…that even work for an MMO? For a single player game sure, but I don’t think that level of open alterations would work well with an online one. Interface addons are one thing, but actually changing the game’s content seems full of huge issues and unfeasible. WoW would become absolute chaos.

I think as long as they use a cloud it will work.

If you had the Tauren on the right you could name them Moofasa :stuck_out_tongue:

Why fix or even make a game better if people will still pay the 15$ a month/buy tokens and next dumb dragon mount on the in-game shop?

Only time things will change is if people unsubscribe and play something else. Blizz got a nice kick in the nuts after the crap they pulled with BFA and the 1-2 months of classic release. (There’s a reason why they brought back a lot of old spells in SL…)

Also bc Bobby

Nah if they do this they can drop the $15/month. If the community has to step up and do their work for them, they can drop the damn sub.
