Hey there!
So I never buy through a reseller ever when possible. But recently I missed out (by 2 days) on purchasing the TBC Classic Deluxe pack before it went away in favor of the Wrath Deluxe pack.
I didn’t get a chance to play classic due to handling some family health issues over the last few years. Despite this, I was interested in the mounts as well as the hearthstone stuff.
I do see you can buy a Key from a few resellers though, but I’m skeptical.
I know, I know… trust me. I know some of those resellers are absolutely garbage and terrible companies. However I’m just inquiring, that’s all. If there’s a problem I’ll certainly NOT purchase a key.
If the key works just fine, but there is an issue later… is your account at a risk of a ban? I don’t want to risk my account of 17 years over something small. But I’ve been looking on multiple discords + forums and Reddit posts and can’t see any indication that this is against TOS technically. At most you might have the deluxe items revoked, though.
But if you use the 58 boost, what would happen to that character if the Deluxe is revoked?
If anyone has a spot where this is against TOS as well too, can you reference the source here? I haven’t been able to find it anywhere.
Thanks!
To give you a short overview, your account could have the items removed at the very least and probably some other stuff. Seen some folks buying 3rd party keys and have the key removed as the card that was used to buy/make it was used to basically flip keys on someone else’s dime.

Gotcha.
Yeah to my understanding it isn’t technically against TOS, but just isn’t supported (refunds, etc) on their end. Basically a do at your own risk kind of thing.
I’d be willing to take the risk since the keys appear to be cheap enough… but ONLY if my account won’t be banned or suspended more or less. Having items removed is far better than a ban.
However I’m curious on the character boost and what would happen to that too. LOL.
Stupid me should have kept up to date with the date the pack was going to be removed in the first place.
Right.
Ask yourself: how is this third party able to sell you something at a lower price than Blizzard does? AFAIK, there’s no “wholesale” price that would allow a retailer to profit by reselling.
Usually, it’s because the key was purchased with invalid credit information and cost the reseller nothing (or at least far less than the real price), so any sale price is mostly profit. And as long as they can get a customer to take the key off their hands before the fraud invalidates it, it’s just the buyer’s problem now.
The other possibility is that the key isn’t valid because it’s for an outdated expansion you actually can’t buy any more. The only expansion you can buy now is Shadowlands.

It’s not necessarily against the terms of use, but I can almost guarantee it’s a scam. Like 99.9999% chance it will come back to bite you.
If you use a boost and the key is later locked (because they take your money, keep it, then do a charge-back etc. for their own money), your characters that are part of that content as well as the boosted character would all be locked until you cough up the money…again, but this time to Blizzard.
If it’s too good to be true, as in “appear cheap enough”, then I highly recommend you run, don’t walk, away from that site.

Oh yeah to be clear, it’s for the TBC Classic Deluxe pack which was removed right before the Wrath Pack. As far as I can see some people HAVE bought a few since it was removed, but still.
I completely agree though. These key sellers are trash. Granted on the other hand, you see success of people “never having issues” using them on the WoW/WoWhead discords too.
Doesn’t make them any less bad of a company though.
I just feel burned (fully by myself) that I missed out on the items. Family health issues and all, which took priority of course. But I should have kept up to date better.

i wonder if some may just be gifts they dont want to use?
Yeah I did create a ticket a few days ago inquiring about this specifically too.
If they could pull some black magic to allow me to purchase it still, that’d be nice. But surely they don’t have the means to be able to do that. I know the customer support for ESO does though, oddly enough. But different game/studio/structure internally for sure.
I’ll wait on a response from them though. It’s not that I don’t want to pay Blizzard either, I just don’t have the option.
Unfortunately some family stuff came up over the years, so that took priority (rightfully so of course). But I still should have kept better track of it, knowing I wanted to come for Wrath. Totally on me though.
Naw dont beat yourself up like that. Life happens. It is what it is.
The reason we urge such caution is we saw a lot of SL licenses go away one day.
Every single one was bought through a 3rd party site. That site later issued a chargeback on the licenses. The unsuspecting customers were left holding the bag and there was nothing Blizzard could do, as it was not purchased through them to begin with. That was the general consensus anyway.
I would hate to see something like that happen to you

Your best option is to live without it. I can guarantee that it will become an issue. In all the years posting here, these sites have never been legitimate.
You’ll be just fine without those extras, especially if you end up with your account locked and characters locked until you cough up the money all over again. And you’ll never see a penny back from that third party site either (nor would I give them any information for them to further steal your identity or credit card details).

Oh wow, yeah I had no idea there was a big surge of issues like that. I’ve only ever purchased straight from Battlenet for everything LOL.
I appreciate the insight though, thanks a ton!
