Just curious if a trial account can join a major raiding guild or any guild for that matter?
Pure Trial account characters cannot join guilds.
However, paid accounts with no time on them lapse to trial account status with a couple of differences between them and trial accounts that have never had paid time.
One of the differences is that they remain in any guilds they were in when they were a paid account and any new characters made while they have lapsed into trial account status, or any old characters who are less than level 21, can join any guild one of their characters was in when the account was in paid mode.
Thanks for the speedy response, I thought that was the case but being I’ve always had a paid sub I wanted to be sure.
Someone claims they had a trial account but wanted someone to gift them a token so they could play so I checked their profile and found they were in a Massive guild with a few hundred guild mates, The person was trying to get something for nothing.
I wouln’t say that exactly. While unsubbed you are under the same restrictions as a trial account (save for what Nok has explained about guilds).
So they cannot: access mail, access the AH, access more than 1000g (even if they have more than that on a character), play characters above level 20, speak in anything other than /say, or have their /emotes be seen.
Indeed, players tend to use “expired”, “trial”, and “starter” interchangeably. Likely for the reason Kyzera mentioned - when you’re expired you get errors about Starter Account restrictions.
Sorry for any confusion!
Thanks to everyone for educating me on the issue at hand. You see this player gave a sad story about being a “Trial Player” and couldn’t afford to purchase to play the game and was asking if someone could gift him a month of game time.
I felt sorry for the player but noticed the player was level 25 and so I looked at his profile and noticed he was in a guild with 400+ members and just now noticed also had rep with Proudmore in BFA and Shadowlands, So this was definitely not a “Trial Account” as the player proclaimed.
You have to watch out for some players who try to get something for nothing.
Perhaps, but that doesn’t mean the player was being disingenuous.
The base account goes up to BfA. A starter account (one that never had paid time) HAS to open BfA zones. It is possible for a starter account to have Proudmore rep as it is the only zone Alliance can pick from the Scouting Map at level 20 or below.
On my EU account that I buy game time on and never had a subscription applied, the first time I let it lapse I was logged out. I immediately logged back in and the character I was on leveled past 20. I’m not sure I could get her to 25 or not, when she leveled I filed a bug report and logged out. Blizzard gives leeway to allow uninterrupted gametime while payment is processing. The second time I let the time lapse I didn’t log in for a few days to allow the leveling lock to kick in.
I do agree it looks like someone trying to get something for nothing. With a big guild like that, why isn’t their guild helping? You wouldn’t be able to gift a month of game time as it is only sold in 2-month blocks now. If it was gold for a token, they would need to be able to log in to get the gold from the mail. There’s no guarantee that Blizzard would give them a day of gametime to get their gold from the mail.
Indeed. Matter of fact you will become Neutral with Proudmoore Admiralty upon your arrival in Kul Tiras and turning in your first quest (Nation of Kul Tiras).

(This is Kyzera – different Battle Net account – on a pure Trial account)
I have been burned in the past “lending” or gifting gold to lower level players. I then said never again and darn, last night a player asked me for one gold and I gave him 500 gold. I was on an alt and tired. Felt sorry for them begging for gold. After I gave it to them I noticed they were a level 1 with a bunch of garbage letters at the end of their name.
I am making another new rule, lol. It was I gottcha moment. Never give gold when tired or feeling sorry for low level player. I followed them and they ran into a shop and immediately logged off.
Like the old saying “Fool me once shame on you”! “Fool me twice shame on me”!
