Being in the third dracthyr spec. Can’t wait to be a dragon tank
GL with that!
I wouldn’t hold my breath, no one knows what sort of role the new spec is, or if its even coming.
its coming right after shaman tanks
Sometimes it’s bad to count your chickens before they hatch…
I would also like the third evoker spec to be tank, if we get a 3rd one.
I wouldn’t get my hopes up just yet though, because there’s no confirmation that there is a 3rd spec coming, or that it’s a tank.
Or for them to just get other classes. Dragon Pali would be pretty cool
Knowing blizz they’ll give us a second DPS spec that uses guns and bows BUT! not as ranged weapons, they’ll use the guns and bows as melee weapons!
ARE YOU READY FOR PISTOL WHIPKINS?
All the hints about the theoretical third spec make it sound like a support spec, which means they’re either trying something completely new and making an actual support spec or it’ll be a second healer spec.
They’ve been pretty adamant about not wanting Evokers to be a melee class in any way.
how will a range tank even work?
Except that it straight up says so in the 10.1 PTR game files right now, on the Evoker only quest that says spec remembered that pops up on logging in.

From the quest https://www.wowhead.com/ptr/quest=72513/our-destiny on the PTR.
That was in the PTR files early last month, that was then continued with more recent content that continues along those lines specifically naming two NPC’s as the two existing specs, and Emberthal as another: https://www.wowhead.com/news/third-evoker-specialization-theory-supported-by-new-neltharion-voice-lines-332224
Tank as has been said is unlikely, but as to third spec, another poster said it perfectly:
Ptr is not final. It could get removed, changed, or delayed at any point between now and live. If the spec was actually live on the ptr i’d believe it more, but it would be really REALLY stupid to release a spec, tank or not, with no testing whatsoever to live. Garunteed it’ll either be completely busted and no one would take any other class, or so bad it’ll be unplayable.
Or it could simply be a story thing that they get the black dragon magic back, or discover they can…emerald magic… better? For a support role, but it isn’t actually implemented in game (which would be stupid, but I wouldn’t be surprised lol)
Again, I hope they get a tank spec, but I’m not so sure a 3rd will happen at all actually happen.
I’ll just point again to the comment by the other poster at the bottom on my post and agree to disagree, except on that the new spec will likely not be a tank one because of Blizzard having said things along the line lines of not having a tank spec for them.
A lizard tank will be the only tank not to make my list of tanks.
Tank…just felt the reply needed one more.
Because blizzard is always consistent with what they say they’ll do or don’t do, and their actions.
Regardless I don’t see it being support since there’s already a healing role. What are they gonna do? Emerald magic better than before? We already have red and blue for dps. Only thing we don’t have is black, and I just don’t see black spells being anything but tank. Maybe dps, but tank makes more sense to me.
But yes
Probably a good idea lol.
I really hope it’s the latter if it’s mid expansion. A bard/utility spec opens up an insanely large can of worms. They can’t balance specs as it is, and PI is enough of a problem by itself.
Then having only one utility spec doesn’t seem appropriate.
What happens in M+? Do you give a dps spot to it or add a 6th spot?
They would become mandatory for raid, what happens to classes like hunters that don’t offer a ton to your raid team already?
Adding utility specs to the game isn’t necessarily bad, but adding it mid expansion would be a huge mistake. It would have to come in 11.0 with them converting other specs to support specs or adding specs to other classes. It wouldn’t have to be a ton of classes/specs, but one spec isn’t enough.
I imagine they’d have to re-institute the ol’ “hybrid tax” for them, meaning their lowered direct damage/healing is balanced out by whatever buffs they provide to the group as a whole so that it’s just a choice to play them, not a necessity.
That would be quite a balancing act though, and I’m not confident in their ability to pull it off.
(I would be very interested to see WoW’s take on bards though so I kinda hope they try)
I highly doubt they are going to add a new spec mid xpac, would be interesting tho
Yeah it would have to buff 4 other people to the same degree it buffs 19. Which honestly wouldn’t be the hardest thing, but it couldn’t really be complex and interesting imo or else then I don’t see them making it work.
Yeah I’m all for it if it’s well thought out. They have a number of specs they don’t seem to know what to do with too that they could convert. Arcane, survival, frost DK, and disc come to mind as conversion candidates.
Nothing in the datamining implies that the new spec will be a tank spec.
What it DOES imply is a buffer/debuffer that stands in the background.
Would be cool to see a dragon guy tanking!
