If it walks like a support and talks like a support, odds are, it’s a support.
That would only happen when they let the dracthyr play one or more of the current 6 tank classes in a future patch (probably 11.0 IMO)
A large portion of the core design for evoker is fundamentally incompatible with the role of tank.

Not to sound sarcastic, but check out SWTOR vanguard/power tech tanks. They have 12-15yrd range abilities as tanks.
Honestly it just means you can fight things running away easier. In PVE its no different than normal tanking, just easier to chain pull outside of taunts.
That being said, I have doubts that if Evokers get a 3rd spec that it will be tank. Im thinking Melee Dps will be the playstyle. 2h melee to be specific.
They don’t need a tank spec.

I want a melee dragon dps. Not a tank, enough tanks in the game imo

Which dissapointed me. Since when I think Earth magic. I think tankyness. When I think big dragon boss. I think big tank with high defense, and nice magical breath attacks and tail sweeps.
With the earth magic it could have been great. Sadly it seems it will be a new support role or healing spec.

Paladins sort of already do that. Blood dks too sorta but they nerfed there single target pull ability to like 5 seconds.
I only brought up swtor because all the skills for those classes are technically ranged. Some even up to 30.
The void titans from destiny are sort of a fun tank on ranged tanking.
But that’s a gun game xD. In D2 they have basically a void avenger’s shield ability which is awesome.
I really did want a dragon tanking spec but it seems unlikely. That or shaman earth tanking spec. One day hopefully.
Nah, it’s gonna be either a support spec or a second healing spec just like priest has. We don’t need more tank specs, we need more tank players willing to brave the cesspool that is LFG.
Okay, I doubt it’s gonna be either of those, but a girl can hope

The new spec is the first ever support spec, but will be released during the prepatch of 11.0
Why?
One of the features of 11.0 is a brand new combat role in support. Along with 4th specs of other classes who get their own support specs like perhaps…
Paladins, mages, priests, monks, or anything else that fits
Strange enough is both gameplay and lore that not all Dracthyr are Evokers.

And we will make sure to immortalize this statement when it does occur later, as the plentiful in-game files PTR data directly says it will.
Same as all those who said the same for there would be no playable Vulpera and to get over it in BFA.
Well dracs cant fly due to the clueless intelligence that the devs have… which shows they dont play their game.
Conclusion: they will stuff up like they always do. Due to a few clueless people that work there.
Go out side, what do birds do with their wings?

A tank class would make more sense considering its a frikin dragon.
Instead Devs show how weak dragons are because as i said above, they dont even play the game…

Enough melee dps that can’t get slots in groups.
New specs would have new abilities. People saying “der the currently der spells not der work with der tank”…. Yeah because you haven’t remembered those spells/abilities yet…
