Calming techniques

Hey guys, i have an issue when doing arenas where i get overwhelemd by the input. When in 2s and i come up against double dps, i get flustered and end up messing up a lot. In 3s, its for all comps.

While it wasnt too big of deal below 2k, its become a big deal 2k+. Teams are very coordinated and any mistake is taken advantage on immediately.

Im wondering if anyone has had similar issues and have effectively dealt with it in some manner of success.

Thats why you roll with a ret paladin. druid/ret pala is really hard comp to beat with all the cds and off healing. Well that is unless the other team has a mage on it then its gg. Next patch however rets get undispellable freedoms omega

Ive actually never played with a ret before. I only played with a warrior and dk so far.

Start talking out loud. Say everything that you’re thinking about so that not only does your partner know what you’re thinking but you can then hear yourself think. This will help slow you down and if you do say anything that wouldn’t be a good plan or would be considered a ‘mistake’, you then have not only yourself but your arena partner to help catch you and stop you from making that mistake.

Thanks i will do that. I wish i had somebody to talk to but nobody wants to do voice. Im told that voice isnt needed til 2.1k+.

But ill just try talking out loud to myself. Thanks for tbe suggestion!

Yeah no matter what start just speaking out loud. It just helps you think and process about what you’re actually wanting to try and do, forcing yourself to slow down instead of just doing things instinctively or panic.

And don’t just talk about what you are about to do, but also why you think its a good idea and if there’s any way the other team can stop that.

Sounds really simple, but just being calm will help you. Remember it’s just a game and unless you’re heading to the next LAN you shouldn’t be stressed over anything on here being excited or having adrenaline isn’t bad though. If you make a mistake don’t focus on it during the match think of what you can do to make up for it and just play the best you can then after the game even if it’s a win or loss talk with your partner or partners about what happened that you did wrong if you did anything and vice versa if they did anything and improve. Also try not to play with overly toxic people that’s not very fun especially for someone with your case. I also don’t really voice in arena but it can be helpful all depends on what you think or want and can help you be coordinated and more cool down efficient giving you an edge. Also don’t forget to try and have fun even in this current meta

I’d suggest recording your gameplay as well. So you can see what you do when you’re panicking in real time and recognize mistakes you make, what cause you to make them, and try not to make them in the future.

ey mate! I want to preface this by saying all of our heart rates get jacked up during arena which can lead to fluster and mistakes, so that’s normal af.

Having said that, I see 3 major issues.

1a) You are playing with classes that cant provide you any utility to essentially save your *** when things get weird and intense. Warrs and DKs are straight mongo dmg with meh peels. I’d super recommend playing with FroMage or SP, you’ll drive teams mad. (Constantly slowed, poly, two blocks, lifeswap, offheals, MC, mindbomb) Really makes your roots/clone shine even brighter.

1b) Playing with another caster will help you from being the solo kick-target. Again SP/FroMage here.

  1. When playing against dbl DPS team, play defensive. Always. They want to global you. If they both pop their burst, Run and LoS. If they split up there burst, Run and LoS. Wait till they are gimped on offensive pressure, then take em out. Swap during defensives, and the game will be over before you know it.

In every situation there is going to be a correct sequence of spells that youll need to use or call for from your team in order to survive with max efficiency.

I would suggest watching metaphorz stream. Dude’s a tool but he is a very good rdruid. He is constantly talking through what he’s doing and what needs to happen.

Don’t play attention to your mmr or cr. Helps a ton.

You can beat those other players don’t psych yourself out. They make mistakes just the same as you. If cr is important to you this may not be for you but if you don’t feel like breaking a PR or pushing Q with lower xp players and really fine tune yourself.

Put yourself in a forgiving environment. It’s a natural way of playing it. If you’re playing perfect you will win and you will advance. When you play perfect and advance you feel confident. Therefore eliminating the high stress.

hey! my dad has glaucoma so I use his medicine so I can relax! hope this helps

Thank you all for the great advice! I will definitely try to implement it all in some form.

Agree. Metaphors is actually really good at announcing his play during the match. Not only his global-for-global play, but also what he thinks needs to happen/ is going to happen.

voice is always better

This whole meta blows.

I was scared for a moment. I thought “Calming Techniques” was going to be a new essence for healers leading to more ultra dampening games in 8.2.

Get some good arena music.

Elvis (early or late, forget middle).
Roy Orbison.
Marvin Gaye.
Nina Simone.

Proper soul music. You will zen teams to death with the zero fcuks that you give. Time will slow down so much you can make cups of tea between GCDs.

No I’m not joking.
