Buying WoW time in Canada

EDIT: Thanks, guys. This seems to be the general consensus even on Reddit. It’s dumb, but what can you do. Thanks, y’all.

So I got myself 60 days of game time the other day at Walmart - was $37.99

My friend is looking at getting 60 Days through Battlenet Launcher, and its $43.99? Why? Did I miss something? I have the card on my desk rn and it shows $37 sooo wtf

Currency conversion most likely - 60 days through battle.net will be based on US dollars then converted to your locales currency at the current rate.

Could also been a promotion price at Walmart too.

Taxes are a definite contender.

I don’t know. Taxes are weird. I was talking to a tax accountant/auditor the other day and he quit his last job (as the accountant for an North American firm selling to different provinces and states) because the stress of deciphering different states’ laws burned him out.

My guess would be conversion plus tax. Buying something internationally would be different then buying locally.

To be fair, back when our dollar here in Canada was higher than the US…literally ZERO of us Canadians were complaining about WoW being cheaper with our Loonies than the US.

It just how the economy works in this day and age. Back then, Canada didn’t collect taxes on online purchases/services too. Now, not only does Canada do charge taxes for online services and purchases, many (if not most) US states do too.

Blizzard is required to collect and distribute such taxes to the appropriate countries too.

Literally EVERYTHING in Canada is more expensive than the US right now. But when I walked out of the hospital with my son not long ago after he got hurt at school (possible concussion, stitches etc.) and it cost me zero dollars…it made it all feel worthwhile.
