I want to play shaman but there’s too many buttons dude
like do I need a second keyboard? I have all the buttons near WASD bound, my mouse buttons bound, 12345, my up and down scroll mouse wheel even, and ALL those plus shift, plus ctrl,
and it’s still not enough. There’s 1286178 abilities.
That’s just not fun anymore. I’m not saying make it derp-level stupid 3 buttons, but there’s a limit to where it’s just actual bloat and unfun.
Agree can easily have 30 buttons. They really need to get design down to being great at pushing 4 buttons extremely well. Then another 3-4 for flavor. Should only need 1 action bar to play.
I disagree the ability pruning in WoD and Legion made the game worse for the most part. It was weird playing on a wrath server then switching to Retail and feeling weaker despite being a way higher level. Remember in legion when they removed buffs from every class? That doesn’t feel like a mmo. I much rather have an ability bloat than lose my favorite abilities for 5 years again.
I love playing a Shaman but you are right. When I came back a couple months ago it was rough to get use to. The other issue is Maelstrom stacks to monitor, recommend getting a WA or better UI to monitor. I will say this, once you figure out Enhancement it is rewarding and any alts in the future are pretty ez to figure out.
That is a design flaw.
If in expansion A you have 10 buttons and in expansion B you have 5 and your damage/survival is worse then they forgot to balance the numbers.
I am an advocate that classes should be easy to use.
It shouldn’t have to be necessary to use macros or addons to play a class optimally.
Instead, the game should be more difficult where the correct use of your few skills has more impact.
I used to heal and then went to Enhance in Shadowlands. Tried going back to Resto recently and holy shnikes there are so many buttons. I can’t fit them all on my action bars or in any logical way.
It’s odd how they keep getting this concept of customisation and flavour wrong.
They removed too many abilities and it made classes dull.
They decided to add that all back in and it made it too bloated.
They could easily add customisation options through talents. Pick certain abilities and keep going. People can then customise to their preference without having to grow 10 more fingers.
I work on making good builds with as few active talents as possible. For resto shaman, I have a 14 button build, it’s not as few buttons as I want but it’s pretty darn good. Help/harm macros are a huge help as well, and I don’t use modifiers. With modifiers, it could probably be less.
Shaman is one of the few classes left besides druid that is in desperate need of an ability pruning. It is a class that would definitely benefit by losing about 3-4 active abilities.
depends on the spec. Outlaw, for example, is an obnoxious, bloated mess.
But Sub is just right, with passives that are actually powerful.
If you try to trim the fat in Outlaw by taking passives, your DPS will be absolute garbage.
I really believe some specs were just rushed to the finish without really thinking them through.
