People are using the water strider for striding on water, this is clearly a problem we needed to fix, what a totally unexpected game mechanic that just fundamentally shifts the gameplay from great to bad, our priorities are totally in order, here at Blizzard.
So every time you mounted the bug in the last 7 years == time wasted?
This is exactly why they are doing it, and why they also won’t just leave the water strider as is but exempt from gear. Wake up people, this is not about too many people using the strider or fairness to new players.
It wouldn’t be the first time they changed a buff when an xpac hits. They already did it this year to that item that gives you a buff that you can get in legion. It now doesn’t work once you hit 120.
Meanwhile, in FFXIV, the devs are adding flying to older mounts which are currently ground only, so players who prefer their coeurls can use them in content with flying
Ah. So they are beginning to break their world so that the cyclical gamer is attracted also? Well. The beginning of the end to an MMO who had world building down. I suppose I’ll withhold final judgement however. They have a wealth of creativity and may find a way to incorporate a flying coeurl in a way that isn’t a break.
If you think it’s a better game and that the developers pay more attention to their fans why wouldn’t you want to make that your main game?
The combat system is incredibly slow until… idk, the end of the 2nd expac? You have no way to measure your performance that doesn’t risk your account (officially). The aesthetics are Eastern, not Western, and so you have random, jarring, visual elements thrown in, the sexes are very polarized and there are many jockular harr-har quests, and of course it’s cutesy and a bit more cutesy and then for good luck another dollop of cute. I can’t even clap w/out being reduced to a prepubescent girl at her first concert. At least in WoW I’m just reduced to a teen cheerleader. ~lol~
I don’t want to take away the opportunity for others to choose their WW mount - but I would cheerfully deny myself access to the new system to have my Water Strider continue to make sense in the world Blizzard crafted.

In a world that already has flying bears and a flying whale, I don’t think the flying coeurl is going to break anything.
That is the same type of argument that seeks to defend the removal of flight and would no doubt be used towards those that complain that they spent real money on certain flying mounts that are impractical on the ground.
It doesn’t work then just like it doesn’t work now. Mounts aren’t consumables. You get the special ones for their… wait for it… special use. What’s being removed next? Traveler’s mammoths? The yak? Hey, it’s really not “fair” that ah spammers now have a mount with auctioneers so they can insta-undercut everywhere they go! Hey, it’s really not fair that engineers get special auction houses and their own mailbox toys! You know what else is really unfair in the competition of racing for who loots x first? Loot-a-rangs! Why should they get to loot before me at range?!
The Whale makes sense to me - what’s the name of the bear, however? I’d like to see the model. And, when was it introduced?
The sky being treated in fantasy as the ocean is a thing. Bears, not so much.
My wife keeps telling me about things they’re adding in Shadowbringers
I’ve been watching the forums over there and it’s almost got me ready to drop both my wow subs and fire up my SCH again… would have to find a new FC and catch up, but at least I’d know over there…

Then equip the WW boots and keep chugging along with the strider. This isn’t some giant gamebreaking system. I heard there was going to be a speed boost item, so I am probably going to equip that and just completely forget about the rest. I have never had a problem with daze happening to often and I always just go around the water. However, I also have the artifact fishing pole so I might just swim through it if it’s big enough lol. Seriosly this is not that big of a deal, at all. Definitely not gamebreaking.

The Mystic Panda from 4.2.
“Armed with unexplainable ability to levitate…” is right in the description. So clearly FFXIV thinks “it’s magic” is sufficient explanation.
However long you need to play WoW is on you.
We all have lives and they’re all different so we’ll all have different opportunities and different schedules and some will be born with the silver spoon and others get the shaft.
Welcome to Life.
Now go get one.

Who is talking about the game systems breaking? Not I. You are confusing gamers with inhabitants. Inhabitants want to immerse themselves in the game world, the whole point of being attracted to an MMORPG. What Blizzard tells us about the world needs to be consistent. This game system breaks that consistency with the removal of innate WW from the Water Strider.
Magic exists in the world. So while I think a Yak on the bay is stupid as all get out, you can explain it with the existing systems in the world, even if you find it jarring.
Once again, the world is being broken and loosing cohesion because of the cyclical gamer. They don’t do what inhabitants do: swap mounts when around water, do the water things, swap to a ground mount. That takes .25 sec that their preferred playstyle does not allow. So as a result, Striders everywhere on PvE servers. Striders in the mountains, Striders in the cities, Striders in the forests. I can see why it is something that needs addressed.
However, for my playstyle, this is the worst way to address it as I am an inhabitant.
Ah. I see. That’s a nice touch. It is breaking with the world, so by acknowledging it, they give it special powers and thus exempt it from the natural flow of the world.
Smart. Makes me feel hopeful towards the impending shift of abilities for other, land based mounts. But we’ll see. Again, it might just be a gamer-grab.
I’m sorry you feel that way. I can understand how you feel when you explained it that way. I still think they are doing it the best way though. I do understand your side better.
Thank you. I appreciate your understanding. Many more years of good gaming to you!
What’s being removed next?
Whataboutism is not a valid argument.
T-48.5 hours and counting.

Oh really? I seem to remember you saying that they couldn’t treat the strider like the golem because, “what about those that just keep using the strider?”
Tarc’s goalposts, you are now clear for takeoff on runway c.
And to you as well!

Falsehoods don’t help your cause much. The sky golem is excempt from this because it is a crafted item, and one that take a lot of mats and time to do,
