Okay, so I’ve been trying to use the cooldown manager the past couple weeks, augmented by TellMeWhen for things it blatantly can’t do, and the stuff it’s not doing in some cases is pretty egregious.
Last week (I think), I had a BM build that included Explosive Shot, and it wouldn’t show ES in the cooldowns. I had to make a TMW icon to handle it.
Now I have a Dire Beast build and that ability isn’t being shown in the cooldowns. It’s a key ability of the build, and it just doesn’t show up. Again, made a TMW icon to handle it.
Not good. Really obvious things left out, no ability to order the icons, or exclude ones I really don’t care about, not even really mentioning higher level functions like custom triggers, animations and audios, and, well, it’s a solid C-.
At some time in the future, we may not have access to realtime addons anymore, and this might be our only option. Supporting it being bad is a poor choice.
I can’t keep track of CDs I care about (Lunar Storm has a icon but you can’t keep track of the timer), it keeps track of things I don’t use (Kill Shot is flat out unused) and it flat out throws all the buttons on there with no way to move or change them.
Item CDs aren’t shown at all, kinda big deal if your macros are out of sync or you have two on use trinkets.
It needs a lot of fixes if this is going to be pushed.
I find that the hardest on hunter with the non-rotational cooldown panel (forget what it’s called). Hunter has so many extra buttons that the panel is just friggin huge and crowded and you can’t find what you want at a glance. Again, I had to make a TMW group for the four or so things I actually care about checking in a hurry.
DH, on the other hand, doesn’t have a glut of non-rotational abilities, so it’s not as bad (but I still have TMW groups for things like Winning Streak and Fragility).
That’s not really the point. The DH version of the CD manager tracks lots of situational abilities (as does my personal TMW setup). You still may want them tracked, so when you need it, you can see it’s there and off CD, or has stacks, or whatever for the ability in question.
Ion mentioned “cutting back on third party addons”
People took that as “gonna ban addons” in typical GD fashion instead of rather “making ‘required’ addons part of the base UI”…which he went on to explain
That can be tracked via action bars, as it doesnt really have a use outside of press and forget
I never watched the announcement where they made this. Could you link me towards it? I believe you, but I am curious what he thinks are “required” addons part of the baseline UI.
Stuff the like cooldown rotation thingy I turned off immediately and I have no addon for that. So I’m curious if or what other UI-elements I might have to turn off in the future.
If you want to actually be productive, the way you do this is by reporting it as a bug. Whilst I don’t think cooldown managers should be used in the way players want to use them (to replace their own gameplay and brains i.e. not learn how the game works), if it doesn’t display a particular cooldown you think it should then you go and report it as a bug.
We’re talking about a cooldown tracker. Why is that suddenly a bad thing? The numerous addons that exist to track DoTs and cooldowns is suddenly lazy??
… what? Setting up the cooldown tracker is setting up your UI. It’s literally a UI option.
What are you on about?
Dude… no one is talking about the one button rotation option. They’re talking about the COOLDOWN MANAGER that’s in game RIGHT NOW.
