Buff impending catastrophe

The disparity between this ability and others is too big.

Even in an aoe setting, its total garbage.

Buff it. More, damage, instant cast, a slow, empored version of curses. SOMETHING

It should do more damage and/or proc our Soulbinds. That’s a big reason Night Fae is so powerful.

I would imagine there is a pretty big balance pass coming for covenant abilities. There are big disparities between them and they are supposed to be more of a flavor thing than a performance choice.

Agreed. I think a covenant balance patch is coming too but I don’t think we’ll see it until SD dies on Mythic. Prob early Jan is when we’ll see things come thru, although I’d definitely prefer sooner.

I have a feeling they will not be touching covenant abilities at all anymore. Say they buffed impending catastrophe and now its the new meta for warlocks there will be nothing but screaming from people that now they are forced to leave the covenant they put all the work in.

FotM will always happen no matter how small the gain.

Currently there is a chasm between covenant powers to the point that using specific ones can net a DPS loss. Traditionally elephants in the room of that caliber are addressed multiple times if needed. We’ll see.

Yeah, I’m hoping it gets a boost. At this point most guides I’ve read have said unless there’s at least three targets, and that’s generous some say five. Any ability that isn’t a cast it on cool down needs to be looked at. Even if all they do is really buff the initial hit and not the dot portion so casting on single target would make sense it would be nice.

This is a good way to look at it, even a multi-target spell like Destro’s Cataclysm, can historically be cast on a single target and not be a DPS loss. So a spell that’s as ā€˜prestige’ as a covenant ability should follow the same design ethos.

I’m often at a loss as to what Blizzard are doing.

I just want to post some ideas I was mulling over for IC for DEMO and DESTRO:

Destruction:

Impending Catastrophe: Instant Cast, 1 min CD (reduced by haste)
Cast a bolt of blood-fused anima at your target and infecting your targets and all targets within 7 yards with Animated Blood. Animated-Blood causes your Incinerate and Chaos Bolt to hit all targets at 35% damage. Impending Catastrophe is affected by Havoc. If Impending Catastrophe hits 5 or more targets Chaos Bolt has a 10% chance for the next 12 seconds to have a 50% cast reduction and cost no shards.

Demonology:
Impending Catastrophe: Instant Cast, 1 min CD (reduced by mastery)
Fire a bolt of blood-fused at anima at your target and all targets within 7 yards and infecting them with Demonic Anima. All targets with demonic anima spew out a fel imp every 2 seconds that fires 10 firebolts at the target then implodes upon expiration. If Impending Catastrophe hits 5 or more targets, Hand of Gul’dan has a 10% chance for the next 12 seconds to be instant cast, cost no shards and generate 3 imps.

These will never happen but at least they are out there.

They can buff IC without it becoming ā€œthe new metaā€. I don’t need it to be better than the other covenant abilities, but it’d be great if it wasn’t just a DPS loss to cast.

Currently I’m using it as my pre-cast opener (IC at 4 sec, followed by Cataclysm), and I think I maybe tossed one or two out on Council when we clump up the adds, but aside from that I don’t use it while raiding. (And if you check out my parses on normal I’m currently 8/10 gold, so it’s not like I have no clue what I’m doing.) And in M+ I really haven’t often had the chance; the fact that I basically never use it means it’s hard to train myself to go to that cast instead of just spamming RoF on big groups.

It has a cool animation, though, so I wouldn’t want to see it become instant-cast. :stuck_out_tongue:

I swapped to nightfae today and im sad about it :frowning:

Swapped to Necrolords myself, loved Venthyr, loved doors of shadows, just hated gimping my m+ and raid…

Necrolords Decimating Bolt is still under tuned compared to Night Fae, but they were my second choice.

what renown were you at? Curious how long it is going to take ya to push back up.

renown 4 after about 2 hours. you get renown from almost everything. got 2 from callings and 1 from the 5 soul maw quest atm

Edit you also get the maw and 1k anima quests 1 a day until you are caught up to your main

With things like convoke, mindgames and a bunch of other really impactful or super high damage abilities out there, IC is just complete, utter, gutter trash. You just dont cast it, its that bad.

Bumping for visibility, hopefully

Started out as Venthyr cause I really liked the ability and thought if they ever buffed it, it would become BiS Cov for warlocks. Longer dot than Soul rout, Applys to move enemies. But the damage was just trash.

Switched to Night fae to be able to compete at a high level. If they were to buff it now I would be livid because of the annoyance to switch between cov’s. If they do buff it i’d like to see it happen between raid tier transition

A covenant pass is coming in January dont get your hopes up. Too many broken things where 90% of specs migrate to one cov. They arent going to wait 5 months since ppl are going to cry about having to switch covenants whether its now or in the future anyways so its not like they will avoid backlash.

Is this confirmed!?, because Night Fae/Kyrian sort of dominated covenant choice, more so Night Fae, their was a post about a week ago where Night Fae was about 50% of Warlock choice followed by kyrian.

I’m sure that number for Night Fae has grown too as many posts on forums have said they made the switch…

Impending Catastrophe need a huge buff for Venthyr, Decimating Bolt needs a buff for Necrolords, and definitely Soulbinds for both Covenants need to be re looked at…

They even did the maths that Night Fae vs Decimating Bolt does 27% more dps on single target including the enhanced filler, and the gap just goes off the chain in AoE as decimating bolt is single target only…

I am shocked they gave Night Fae a 10min Reincarnation that makes Shamans reincarnation feel so bad. Not to forget Soulshapes amazing utility compared to 4 sec channel Fleshcraft, atleast Doors of Shadows is 1.5 seconds…

Edit: I even switched from Venthyr to Necrolords, I held out for a month, loved both covenants but Venthyr pulled ahead, atleast Necrolords skill does a tiny bit more damage the Venthyr even if it’s barely anything…

No just my assumption. I think a bigger pvp pass is coming along with cov tweaks because some are just terrible all around and I dont foresee blizz ignoring a central focal point of their expansion for the entire raid tier.
