If something’s limited time availability is being pushed as an incentive to get it, then its FOMO.
Blizzard pushed the limited time availability of CM as a thing. You can find the old news articles. Therefore, it is FOMO
Pokemon Blue got a re-release on the Nintendo 3DS and will probably be thrown up on the Switch’s equivilent at some point, it isn’t FOMO. However that Mario 3 pack they did for the Switch, the Mario 64/Sunshine/Galaxy three pack they advertised as being rare? That’s FOMO
Something bigger is that they use the recolors that have existed in the database since CM was released? Boy, I agree with them keeping the original colors as exclusive, but using the recolors that have existed in the database for years and that they didn’t want to use doesn’t hurt anyone, and no, the Legion Class Hall ones are a nerfed version which cannot be called recolor.
I wouldn’t even care if it was just the full skin without nerfing but keeping the effects that come out when you hit exclusive, I just want to use that skin because I like it, no matter what color it is or if it has effects when hitting or not, I don’t want to use the nerfed version because it is horrible removing all those details that make it look good.
I mean, we know what the desire was at the time, with AotC Garrosh in particular being “Get more people raiding because raiding is once again so low on numbers we can’t justify it being made”
But. We are now 10 years out from the decisions at the time, in a vastly different gaming landscape where this type of limited content has a name and a reputation in this day it didn’t have back then. Like Garrosh said, times change, and if folks are overwhelming against this stuff, gotta give it consideration for ways to bring stuff back with an appropriate challenge
Physical goods are a limited commodity and are able to be bought, sold, and traded for after the fact. And many replicas are also made these days for people not wanting to shell out for the originals.
Digital goods are infinite by nature (or near infinite anyways), so they have to be arbitrarily limited by some fashion. Almost always by time, not number.
I see people saying this, but that’s not actually how that works, at least not entirely. “Digital” goods, can be limited in supply, that’s just the nature of things.
I think when people say that, what they’re referring to is that digital goods do not have the same kind of supply chain constraints that real world goods do. E.g. I could copy/paste an image online infinitely. I can’t do the same with a real world painting of the same image. At least not anywhere near as quickly or as easily.
You can’t call that recolor, they are 2 completely different sets, it’s like me calling a mythic set recolor to one from LFR, NM or HC from the NH raid
Don’t shoot me for their design choices… it’s the closest that the player base got to get something that was once removed.
Lets face it, when it comes to re adding things that were removed content wise blizzard seems that will never give up on the push. The most you will get is recolors and a massive FOMO which lately blizzard is using so much so that they will burnout their collectors eventually…
Maybe that’s how it worked back in Legion but modern Blizzard is obviously not above re-adding or putting things that were exclusive back into the game in some available form. Them keeping CM mogs, mounts and heirlooms unobtainable right now isn’t in favor of the end-user. That’s future content they can get people to play things for, especially in rerun’s of said content (if they choose to).
But this is still not entirely accurate. Images like all digital goods need to be stored on physical hardware. These physical components are real world goods subject to those same availability and supply chain constraints you speak of.
Maybe. But that doesn’t stop them (as it never has) from adding in recolors or, worse, remodels that are higher quality for people to get. People who honestly believe Blizzard upholds this standard really forgot every single time they’ve skirted around this lol.
What is being requested are the recolors that exist since MoP that have never been used, it is not content that they deleted, it is content that exists in the database and has never been used, adding these recolors does not harm anyone, it benefits everyone.
