Being selective about who you play with isnt gatekeeping. Nobody’s actually preventing you from going and doing the content, you can form a group and walk in. You could MAYBE argue gatekeeping with raids, but a 5 man dungeon’s barrier to entry is so small, theres no way to gatekeep when you can just go and make your own group.
Being selective about who you spend your time with is not gatekeeping.
The way that modern players go about it, is 100% gatekeeping and far in excess of what’s necessary for the content, but because many people over-estimate their own worth, they totally gatekeep content especially when tanking.
No, according to blizzard it will not include rdf.
Raw time isnt all that matters, because it ignores content drought. Major content patches also matter. And it was in for 1 major content patch. We had 3.0, 3.1, 3.2, and 3.3 as the major content patches. So it existed for 1/4 major content patches. Now just loooing at this would be a bais comparison. Which is why we factor in both major content patches and raw time to get a better idea of how much it was a part of wotlk by taking the average.
So (25%+49%)÷2=37% so slightly more than. 1/3. Aka, the majority of wotlk did not have rdf. Even if we only go by raw time this technically holds true as 51% is the majority.
And thats for blizzard to decide. They have already stated that their classic games are not for everyone. If you dont want to play classic wotlk because of no rdf, you very well might not be their target audience. The good news is they have other options for you. Between all of their games i am sure you can find one you like. And if not, other game companies might have what you want. Not every game is meant to be played by everyone.
That’s precisely why it matters. Because for millions of players, the experience was RDF, because that was the primary content driver for half of Wrath.
The problem is that they’re trying to cater Wrath to Vanilla players, and excluding all the Wrath players who want the Wrath experience, with all the bells and whistles that Wrath implies.
If people want Vanilla, go back to Classic Era. It’s still there.
Looking at raw time ALONE and ignoring the other factors is intentionally being bais with the data.
But even then, the majority of wotlk did not have rdf, 51% is still the majority even with you being bais with the data. All denying the emportance of ALL the data does is expose YOUR bais.
No, looking at the experiences of the people who played Wrath. Any attempt to do otherwise undermines your own argument, because you’re claiming that your opinion matters more than the reality of 2010.
Jesus. It’s BIAS. It’s actually painful to read that. Also ‘importance’. If you’re going to use big words, at least spell them correctly.
And as someone who played wrath i can tell you rdf didnt define wotlk for me, it didnt even feel like a good fit, and it definatly didnt feel like it was part of wotlk for the majority of the expansion. Because after 5 months of ICC the content drought really started taling effect. We saw our raid roster having to regularly replace a few people because of people quiting the game out of boredom, heck the only reason I was still playing was because I wanted the legendary for my DK before I stopped.
My experience of wotlk was rdf wasnt a great change and it wasnt there for the majority of wotlk.
So even going just by experience of the players, not all players feel the way you do. Which is all anecdotal evidence to begin with. Which is why time AND major content patches together give a better idea of how much rdf was part of wotlk. Which is to say, it wasnt there for the majority of wotlk and wasnt a defining feature of wotlk.
None of this is because of RDF, and I’d posit that the fact that you lasted five months is because RDF kept new players interested as they joined the game. You might not have used RDF, but it definitely helped you through a content drought.
I did use rdf back then as well. Avoided it when i could though because it regularly ended up with non tank tanks and ‘healers’ or just plain toxic players. But even when i manually formed groups i was forced to use it for the bonus rewards.
I dont disagree with you, I just wanted to be clear that its not gatekeeping if you can still go about doing the content, just not with those people. For it to be gatekeeping, the people in question need to be preventing you from participating in the content, which people forming their own dungeon groups are not doing.
Now, whether or not its trashy behaviour, or warranted, based on your gear and/or talent setup, is a separate discussion. I personally dont do dungeons without at least 2 other friends, because doing dungeons with randoms, who i will never see again due to blizzard deciding to dogpile grobbulus into a megaserver, isnt what I consider fun. But then, I’m also not stuck on the perpetual pursuit of gear to clear content in a 15 year old game.
I’m not sure you understand how dumb your reply was. Surely you grasp the number of dps whispers someone forming a group will get and how it wil be down to tank/healer very fast.
If only there was a tool that automatically matched available tanks, healers and dps. Would be great right?
The LFG tool has a description section where you can state if you’re a DPS, Healer, Tank or multiple of those options. The groups also have the ability to show what they need. My point was that given these features DPS aren’t going to be denied as the group is looking for tanks and healers as the DPS shouldn’t be applying for the role that is clearly shown as the role that is required. Also the groups don’t need to /who and /w them to find out that they are not a tank or a healer.
