Brewmaster too bad or just me?

Seriously, is Brewmaster really that bad, or is it just me? I have two tanks with good gear that I can do +9 and +10 keys. Guardian and Brewmaster. I tried doing a Grim Batol 10 on my Brewmaster and with each pack of mobs, my health kept dropping a lot, like a yo-yo. My health would constantly drop to around 40% or 50%. I did the same key on my Guardian Druid and just by spamming Ironfur with another defensive if my health dropped below 90%, which was rare, I never even felt like I was in danger of dying while playing Guardian.

There’s no way Brewmaster is that bad, to the point where your health looks like a yo-yo. The spec is already hard to play and in the end you get no reward for knowing how to use it even moderately well (I’m not the best player in the world, but I know how to purify damage, manage brews, energy, and maintain good DPS). Meanwhile, other specs press 3 or 4 buttons and their health doesnt drop by more than 30%
And with Brewmaster youre smashing your keyboard and your health is still all over the place.

Does that even make sense? Might as well just delete the spec from the game, will be better. Whats the point of playing with Brew? Fun? Is that all? But wheres the fun in dying in pugs because healers are used to play with self-sufficient tanks and when it comes to healing a Brewmaster, they don’t give enough attention, and you just end up dying?

Having a group of friends and good communication is great, but playing in pugs as a Brewmaster is one of the hardest things, since even in pull control, Brewmaster is worse than the other tanks.

The good news is we scale so by the end of the expansion you’ll be good!

All jokes aside, raid wise with a coordinated group it’s a spec that for the most part is easier on the healers even though damage is lacking.

I refuse to pug Mythics so I’ve not even started them yet. Waiting on a few friends that just came back to the game to do that content. I’ve mainly been doing raid content and delves with my limited game play schedule.

Brewmaster does need tuning. Out of all of the tanks I feel like brewmaster tuning is probably the hardest and with such a low player base Blizzard may not place it as a top priority.

Grim has a crap ton of magic we don’t ‘dodge’ or really stagger at all it seems

We need the tier set bonuses from season 4 Dragonflight to be built in -

We need Dodge to actually be more useful than just dodging BS autoattacks from mobs

Theres more but those 2 would help greatly

Go to youtube and search wow at night. He did a state of tanks video 7 days ago. Pretty spot on about Brewmaster monks.

Yeah he said it pretty well.
TLDR - Warriors are superior to BrM in every way possible.

I just mostly do 7’s right now. Some dungeons are easier than others, but Grim Batal for example, man, I’m flighting for my life in that place. Within seconds my stagger goes into the stratosphere. I’m forced to blow all my BOK combos on PB reduction.

8’s prob won’t feels that much worse, but I can’t imagine going to anything higher at the moment with pugs and friends who play like pugs

But I’m also only 611 ilvl. So I hope the whole scaling thing is true and I will feel beefier by 620.

I even keybinded my VIvify to pretty much use it on CD on myself and occasionally on my team to clutch heal.

Here is my today’s GB+7. 123 Vivify casts.

If Dragonflight is anything to go by, you should be good by 700-something, assuming a decent S3 tier set.

Another day another Doug… No changes this week.

Of course. You will feel better in season 3 with better tierset bro just wait 1 year and everything will be fine.

I haven’t dony any M+ yet on mine, I’ve stuck to delves and a couple M0s. But, I was able to do T11 delves as BrM in 586 gear. https://worldofwarcraft.blizzard.com/en-us/character/us/frostmourne/rafeki is my monk for reference. So I’m sure they’re less of a tank than others, but I don’t think they are as bad as made out to be.

BrM’s pretty rough. I felt it in heroics back a few weeks, and still feel it in T8 delves, for God’s sake. There’s a very good reason BrM and Protection Paladin have single-digit representation in the 10+ keys range, I reckon. To be fair BrM is single-digit for all tiers, though, as it’s never been a popular tank with the masses. Which is a tragedy. it was pretty fun late-DF (when admittedly all tanks were pretty strong).

With them seeing at least some representation in RWF, I’m extremely skeptical to see any tuning anytime soon. I checked my post history and I felt this way in BfA season 1, and DF season 1, haha.

I’m a 613 Brm, doing +8’s. It’s not as bad as people are saying, we’re great in raid. Our health yoyos, we’re similar to BDK in that regard. Some dungeons are better than others. I absolutely feel tankier the more gear I get. Good/bad dps have a massive impact on how tanky I feel.

I’ve been swapping out gear to prioritize either Mastery or Vers based on the dungeon (Mastery for dodging, Vers for magic damage). 18% Mast/13% Vers vs 17% Vers/13% Mast, this might be pointless but I’m doing it. I think we really benefit from having an actual tank trinket, and/or having an Aug Evoker. Use the instant Vivify, try to use Expel Harm at 3+ orbs, and keep your purified chi rolling so you can always get big Celestial Brew’s when you need them. You have to use your defensives pre-emptively. A single talent point change that made a massive difference for me was Black Ox Brew, I can’t play without it now. Kiting in a pinch works well for us, Ring of Peace is insane for ccable mobs.

I’m not against buffs for Monk. Comparing to other tanks is tough, Warrior in particular feels incredible. I would like them to look at our base armor and maybe up how much magic damage we stagger. Even if it’s just outside of raid. We’ve got a decent amount of dead/boring talents as well.

Think we are going down the same path we did in dragonflight :frowning:

As a delve player, I’m 580 and clear 8s solo pretty easily , just takes some time.
So, I’d like to see about a 10-15% dps increase.

I think the biggest problem with the spec, as well as Protection Paladin, is that they are too far away from the rest of the pack to be considered competitive for those wishing to push for title.

Brewmaster also has no niche anymore. We are doing the most damage but only by 2-3%. Mystic Touch brings nothing given most DPS have a high mix of magic damage to their kit and specs like outlaw have faded out in favor of assassination.

this to me is strange though, I’ve been just flat deleted in a few occasions by non tank busters, pack after valiona in gb, we had an aoe silence up, and with shuffle up the caster autoattacks were over 1m a hit after stagger, on a 9. Why is that a thing when one of the major ideas behind brm is damage smoothing? I play brew because I like it but I definitely feel squishy, healing is honestly not bad but the spikiness I’m not used to.

With how low CB gives for a shield its pretty obvious those blanket tank self healing nerfs werent taken into consideration by the BRM devs

The biggest this theres no treadeoff being more skill base mit and need more healer thought to do more damage overall than other tank.

Our mit is passive but the skill is timing brews and others things, removing stagger so in way we should be baseline top dps tank.

being more defensive is the the tradeoff to less damage

plus the threat bug need fixed
