Brewmaster in need of utility and talent/celestial rework

I’ll take whatever I can get.

Some day brewmaster will be #1. And Blizz will probably nerf them right away but it’ll be a good time

For those that come into this post and think brewmaster are fine gitgud etc…
Remember “we’d rather you don’t play demonology” has turned into a case of we’d rather you don’t play brewmaster. If devs are allowed to blatantly ignore a spec for multiple xpacs, what’s stopping them from doing the same to your favourite spec?

Stand up for brewmasters, or when the day comes that your favourite spec that gets gutted no one will be at your side.

I’m playing a Monk currently and gave Brewmaster a try while helping out, and it’s actually kind of insane how bad they feel. Granted I don’t really play tanks very often, but going into a Brew after playing things like Blood or Guardian is crazy how “classic” they feel, it feels like it boils down to keeping swagger up, purifying as much as you can through your brew CD reduction, and just praying it’s enough since if the sun is shining down upon you, you might get a couple Expel Harm orbs to heal you a bit.

I saw a fun comparison how Celestial Brew even when maxed out with the 200% increased effectiveness is around the same absorption as Prot Warrior’s Ignore Pain, except one of them is on a 45 second cooldown while the other has none.

Brewmaster hasn’t been a mythic+ spec in a long time. You can use it in mythic+ but it’s like why would you

Because we love the class fantasy of Monk. I miss MoP monk so bad…

Brewmaster has a lot of potential. It just needs some love from the dev team.

this, all specs need dev time. it’s not ok to just be ignored constantly

An idea since we are talking about Brew. Switch Zen Med with Ox Stance (and delete the two ox stance capstones.

Change Zen med to something like its original MoP form “Reduces all damage taken by 90% and redirects to you up to 5 harmful spells cast against party and raid members within 30 yards. Lasts 8 sec.” Maybe just absorbs a % of damage taken for your party instead of spells so its more useful in general.

Then add a capstone that makes it better in a raid setting. Lower the % reduction but increase it to entire raid.

Add another capstone that allows you to also cleanse/dispel or steal debuffs from your party.

Because its fun.

I was really hoping that the introduction of Hero talents that Blizzard would have the flexibility of balancing around raid and mythic+.

Keep playing! Once you know the class well you’ll enjoy it, so long as you like being on the edge of your seat kind of play. Even when its bad, and its bottom tier now, I would still rather play it than any of the other 80’s I have.

It’s also not the raid tank anymore as shown by Liquid omitting it from their world first Gallywix kill. It’s not the damage tank, either. Brewmaster has pretty much no niche at this point.

Hey, what if we took that raid buff they almost gave Outlaw. Some form of cooldown reduction for the raid! Might be too strong

People always mention stagger and raid tanking, but raids are so binary. Every tank survives easily and some of them will just self sustain through everything so you don’t even need to touch them.

Blizzard it is time to speak up and give us real changes or at the very least some band-aid fixes and a roadmap for how you intend to address our concerns.

I want big buffs for Brew but I disagree with a lot of your ideas.

  • The existence of tier set bonuses sucks. The weaker they are, the better. Buff the class instead.
  • Niuzao isn’t useless anymore, they buffed him significantly.
  • Rising Sun Kick cleave is a NO, that breaks the ability’s identity. Buff the existing aoe/cleave abilities. It’s perfectly okay for Rising Sun Kick to not be part of aoe damage rotation (although I’d be fine with pressing it when not enough energy for Spinning Crane Kick).
  • For more baseline survivability, don’t buff Purified Chi stacks, buff Celestial Brew (or other defenses) baseline. Purified Chi doesn’t really even need to exist, it’s just an extra complication.
  • Face Palm is a very boring talent if it’s 100% of the time. I’d rather remove Tiger Palm from Counterstrike.
  • Blackout Combo: remove Tiger Palm. Buffing Breath of Fire damage reduction just makes Breath of Fire more mandatory, which is bad for talent choices. The current meta of pick-every-damage-talent needs to change. Similarly, don’t buff Charred Passions.
  • The aggro issue on Spinning Crane Kick is mostly because of it relying on multilpliers similar to Tiger Palm. Definitely remove Counterstrike, that damage should be always on. I don’t like increasing the aggro multipllier, not a clean solution. It could use a little damage, but to buff it a lot you have to increase energy cost; Keg Smash should be the stronger button even when you don’t need brew cooldown (but Spinning Crane Kick to group enemies up for Keg Smash is fine).

He’s terribly weak. He’s only played in raid and that’s only because he does enough damage to justify the button press where defensive talents aren’t needed. In high keys he will quite literally die to the stagger he absorbs before his full duration is up. He desperately needs either a buff or rework to be a viable defensive, and preferably his CD should be reduced to 2m baseline to be in line with the other monks celestials.

I’d love for Niuzao to not be a pet and to just buff us.

Imo, celestial brew is far cooler than healing spheres. I’d love for healing spheres to get nerfed/removed and to buff celestial brew.

I’d also like to see much rotational abilities lower our stagger. Or even energy abilities lowering our stagger.

I think for celestial brew to replace orbs completely it would probably have to be a 1:1 copy of ignore pain or something.

We do have talents to lower stagger a little bit but I don’t know how strong they are mathematically.

When they said they wanted to make tanks beefier but less able to sustain it sounded good on paper but I didn’t think they’d achieve it right away. Maybe it would be better if stagger and purify did less but we had much higher defenses, idk. I’m tired of being told by others that they can’t buff or change stagger because “it scales with mainstat” so we have to feel weaker in early seasons in case we get too strong by final season.

Orbs have been a part of BrM from the beginning. I disagree with their removal. Niuzao is cool looking defensive but his problems have already been brought up. He dies too quick and he does negative damage. All of the middle talents for him just need to be baked in.

I agree that Celestial Brew just needs a baseline buff. It is a joke. Maybe add in a DR as well?

All tanks are designed around negating a percentage of incoming damage, and that percentage goes up a little with gear. Armor is the most obvious one, but there’s also things like dodge/parry/block chance, block amount, and stagger. Stagger might not need to scale with mainstat because the percentage of stagger you can clear scales with haste, but it would take a very in-depth look to determine if it’s a problem.

This is perfectly fine; it means you got max value out of him. He’s like a Lay on Hands.

You have my support. I hope brewmaster gets the love it needs to feel better to play.
