considering both spanish and portugese are latin language who recently diverged… I doubt it.

We already are congregated, but we use english as our main linguage on Thalnos, not spanish. We’d prefer to stay on a brazillian realm, otherwise this is just about segregating the non english speakers to a server that will still exist a linguage barrier.

Well, you’re either lying or your colleagues were BS’ing you. Romance languages have such minor similarities (on the practice) that you might as well be talking to someone from a different planet. I’m half french half spaniard and i can’t understand a single word of italian or portuguese.

We don’t need a Brazilian server. PERIOD.

It would only lead to empty servers that would have to be merged in the future due to lack of players. YOU NEED TO REMEMBER THAT THERE IS NOT AND THERE WILL NEVER BE CROSS REALM FUNCTION in classic servers.

Also, I don’t see a point on joint Latin servers (yes, Brazilians ARE latins, regardless of your opinion - I am Brazilian, by the way). Each and every one of us is communicatiing ENGLISH in this very same thread, so there is no reason that you would not do the same thing while in-game. You could also just create a language specific guild on your server and be done with it.

Regarding the differences between Spanish, Portuguese, French and Italian, THEY ARE FUNDAMENTALLY THE SAME THING, Vultar Latin. The syntax is the same, the morphology is the same, the verb declination is the same, the declinating cases are the same, most of the words are the same, the numbers are the same, et cetera.

I can read and understand most of Spanish, French, Italian and even Latin without any kind of dificulty without proper training because they ARE the same thing, just with local variations that received different names due to geopolitical reasons and the time they got apart from each other. They are more dialects of the same language than a different language by themselves. The only one Vulgar Latin that is not mutually intelligible with the others is Romanian, because it is mixed with Baltic languages.

Regarding Japanese (which I also speak) and other kanji based languages, THEY ALL CAN UNDERSTAND EACH OTHER when written, even though some of the meaning might be lost. Malaysians can understand Japanese, Japanese can understand Chinese, Chinese can understand and et cetera because they all use the same script to write. Hell, even older South Koreans might be able to undestand kanji as they still used it untill 1949.

English cannot be compared like that. It is far more a hybrid language of old Saxon, Norman French and old Norse-- because all of those invasions happened within a relatively short time span. It is an unusual language for this.

For instance, English shares a fairly high similarity with German (60%) but I, nor the majority of Americans, can understand 60% of what a German is saying when they’re speaking fluidly.

If there isn’t some sort of misunderstanding between you and your coworkers, then it sounds more likely that they may have found a way to speak around the differences, or perhaps they had more exposure to the other language than they realized?

making a spanish and a portuguese realm will result in two lol dead low pop realms

we have the choice in our hands, that happens a lot to me in retail when i have been in a lfr with portuguese people and we speak each other in a simple portuguese/spanish so we understand each other or we speak in english

Portuguese and spanish are as close as… german and english.
Both get a word here and there but they aren’t that close in most ways dye how the language is structured.

If the server is hosted in USA is a no for me as a brazilian.
The only reason for me to change servers would be latency reduction.
