Why do they need any more other than stress testers?
Do they think TBC is going to have a significantly different launch than classic?
Blizzard just uses the beta as free advertising since they either ignore / are unable to fix the issues brought up (looking at you legiondarys, azerite armor, essence vendor, covenant balancing)
At this point all beta does is give the chance for the sweaty to perfect their farm routes.
Why can’t they test their own game?
I would LOVE to just have TBC drop one tuesday after maint, no warning. But it doesn’t seem that Blizz is capable of delivering a product that way anymore.
I’m starting to think they simply don’t employ enough people who understand/play/enjoy WoW
PS- if there is a store mount in classic TBC I’m finding a p-server, at least that way the “indie-dev” line would at least have some merit
Given the large amount of bugs that have already been found, that seems like a suboptimal play.
Because they aren’t capable. The PTR exists because of the absurd bugs that ended up in just about every raid pre-BT. C’thun stomach tentacles, Kael’thas healer aggro, all these are the result of Blizz’ hilariously inept internal testing.
I’ve never heard of one single online game launching without a slew of bugs. Especially MMO’s. Even if its a relaunch of an old game, there will always be issues when restoring data and everything else it entails. I think most people appreciate the beta because it lets them feel included. Some people enjoy hunting bugs in games.
Even with years of development, single player games launch with bugs all the time as well. It’s just a problem that comes with designing games.
Because there are issues. Because the game has changed over the years. Because the game is being played on a modern client that never hosted the original TBC patches. Have you ever beta tested a game?
Yes it is going to be considerably different from the developer side. For to many reasons to list.
FIXT
This isnt retail. There were issues with classic that they fixed but they also did NOT fix some issues because of all the #nochanges goons. We are in a #somechanges world. Loot at drums. I am positive that those are not going be the final version.
It gives people who have put in the work to get access. To continue the work.
Clearly you have never been a beta tester. If they tested the game alone they would never find all the problems. No developer has ever fully tested a game 100% in house.
Thats not how it worked back then either… Did you even play TBC…
No they dont… they are firing people and giving the CEO fat bonuses. Its BS.
We’re already seeing leeway allowing players to hit through arena pillars and even allowing you to aoe players below the bridge while standing above it…
They don’t do much in terms of actual play testing either, and really haven’t don’t quality testing since Wrath, and even that could have been better. It really got bad in WoD alpha, and irreparably bad in Legion+
This is why I put little faith in beta to weed out bugs. Now days I use it to detect real bad bugs, but even those aren’t usually fixed unil 3 to 6 months after launch.
I strongly suspect that classic team has little to nothing to do with who gets beta, it’s likely a marketing team thing.
And when you look at the not so distant past of gaming, this is what the early access nonsense is basically, it’s a way to soak up money and advertise…
Have you played launch of BFA or SL??? I rest my case.
Heck have you playe SL even now? its a mess, its full of bugs, and even has spells / talents that literally do nothing, like they don’t even work at all… case and point, the rogue talent Neurotoxin,.,
it adds a 1 sec CD to any ability, the irony is lost on blizzard because the GCD is 1.5 sec.
Even a chimpanzee could have found this bug and had it fixed but blizzard A: does not listen to feedback at all in regard to retail and B: does not test retail to know many things are broken.
