I am a new player, so I bought BFA complete and it says I have 30 days of free game time, but more than 72 hours have passed and it still says that I have a starter account. I have read many forums but I have found contradictory opinions, ones saying I need to buy game time because the expansion does not come with any, and others saying buying BFA Complete (which I did) for new players gives you 30 days of free game time.
Check your transaction history. Is it possible that the purchase failed?
You may need to reach out to Billing if nothing substantive is gleaned. Use the Purchase Failure option under Payments.
@Ekon My transaction history says “State: Completed” and has been the same for 3 days now
Where are you seeing it say that you’re still a Starter account? Are you able to level past 20 in-game?
Also, the complete edition (if I recall) makes a new WoW account. So it may be that you’re logging into the wrong WoW account on your launcher. There might be a drop-down just above the large “Play” button on the launcher that shows WoW1 or WoW2 and the status of the accounts.
@Perl On my “account settings” it gives me a preview of my account´s status, and it says “World of Warcraft (WoW1): Starter Edition” And I only have one account, so no WoW2 account exists for me.
I have not been able to pass level 20 (And I have leveled up two characters to 20) nor can use the instant 110 coin that comes with purchasing bfa. The coin is there when I log in, but says I have to upgrade my account in order to use it.
Also, supports self-service says I need to change my password so the system updates and acknowledges I made the purchase, but I have been doing that these past 3 days and nothing has happened.
I does genuinely sound like your purchase didn’t actually finalize. Reach out to Billing via the path I mentioned above, they should be able to shed some light. If you’re absolutely certain that you purchased the Complete Collection and not just the Battle for Azeroth expansion, you should be able to level beyond 20.
Very odd! I agree with Ekon, you next best bet is to contact Billing directly via Live Chat. Here’s a link:

@Ekon Thank you, I will try that even though I received all the emails from Blizzard, PayU and my local Bank saying the transaction was succesful. And yeah I am sure I purchased the complete collection because I have clicked links sent by GMs in forums referring to the “complete collection” and when I do it says “You have already purchased this item”
PayU might be it then: https://us.battle.net/support/en/article/32241
It can take up to five business days for PayU to complete your payment. If you receive a verification message from PayU stating the transaction is successfully processed, it can take an additional 24 hours for your order to update to Shipped after your payment has been processed.
Luichigam – specifically what does your order history say you bought? If it was complete collection, it should be World of Warcraft: The Complete Collection.
If it says Battle for Azeroth, then you bought the expansion without game time, and just need to buy game time.
Ohgodmyeyez - It says Battle For Azeroth, I bought it for 29.99 USD, but as I said when I click on links sent by moderators referring to the complete collection, it sends me to the purchase web and tells me “you have already purchased this item”. So as you can see, I am very confused right now.
In that case, you just want to set up a subscription or buy a month of game time.
Subscription: https://us.shop.battle.net/en-us/product/world-of-warcraft-subscription
(This automatically bills you every month/3 months/6 months)
Game Time: https://us.shop.battle.net/en-us/product/world-of-warcraft-game-time
(this just adds however much time you buy to the account)
Huh, I can link support articles but not shop links. Interesting.
It says that because The Complete Collection includes Battle for Azeroth, which you’ve already bought. Belguilos’s links are spot-on for game time, so you’ll wanna use one of them.
ohmygodmyeyez, Belguilos - That makes a lot of sense, but still brings back the fact that I am classified as a new account and thus by purchasing BFA I get 30 days of free game time for my account. So that is what has been holding me back from buying extra game time.
No, this is why we were asking for clarification and certainty. The expansion itself, Battle for Azeroth, does not include game time. Only the Complete Collection does, because it comes with the base game which does include game time. Obviously it’s not as simple as just saying it like that now that the base game is free, but that’s how it worked in the past and continues to work after the rework of the purchase structure.
The best way to make sure you do have game time, before purchasing any at this point, is to log in to your account admin section (link below) and it will tell you how much time you have there for your WoW account.

I can see where the confusion is coming in here. Everyone has been pretty stellar and spot on though.
Expansions do not come with any game time, never have. The thing is, e way the game works changed towards the end of Legion. Before, yih had to buy the base game and the current expansion as a new player. This got you 30 days. Yih are no li ger required to purchase the base game. Anyone can play all content through Legion with just a subscription
Just add game time and have fun. If you ever d ok let your subscription lapse you can still log into any character 20 or lower, with the same starter restrictions you are experiencing now.
But most importantly, welcome to the game. Hope you find it as fun and enjoyable as I do.
I am trying to include a link for a screenshot of the product I purchased by it says I cannot upload links D: I wanna send it so someone can tell me what it means
Keep in mind though Mastadon, that if the OP did purchase the Complete edition, it does still come with 30 days of game time. The best thing for them to do is check their account section of the site to see what it shows for paid game time.
Luichigam, be sure to check there. If it shows game time then you’re likely just waiting for the payment to fully clear.
True enough Perl. Grwat point
