There’s always Avatar: the Last Airbender (and sequel series The Legend of Korra) as the “not-anime” gateway show
As mentioned previously, Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood is good. My Hero Academia I’m not personally into myself, but it is insanely popular, as an outsider looking in I’d call it “anime X-Men”. One Punch Man is also great for an action series that just takes the piss out of the superhero genre and is a lot of good fun
KonoSuba is a personal favorite isekai, it takes a more comical approach to the genre and is really good for a laugh. That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime is a fun one too
For something a bit more down to earth (…sort of) that is currently in the headlines with a coming second season, Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid. It’s a slice of life following the story of a dragon who becomes the maid of an average desk worker woman, though it is a little bit steeped in Japanese culture so some of it may fly over your head. Also has a bit of controversy over certain characters and scenes that I won’t get into here…but the series as a whole is very cute and lighthearted and absolutely worth a watch if you just want some warm fuzzies
Fruits Basket is a shoujo, which is a manga aimed at young (teen) girls, like Naruto is a shounen, aimed at young (teen) boys. Both genders absolutely like what is, “intended” for the other, it’s just that’s the target audience and tends to have different tropes.
there’s this thing for kindle you can buy that lets you read comics etc. i wonder if any of those things you guys have talked about are on it. i have a large kindle, wouldn’t be reading on my phone. wife wanted to try it out. didn’t like the options. but i should check it out.
if you love to read a kindle can be had for as low as like $50. there’s tons of good free stuff. and lots of things go on sale all the time so even if it’s normally expensive you can get them for cheap.
I respectfully disagree, I’m quite partial to Reincarnated as a Slime. Among my favourite isekai manga, and that remains the same in anime form. Season 2’s ED theme is just a banger too.
