Boosting does affect the whole ladder, even passively if you don’t play versus the booster. The reasoning is very easy if you use your brain for thinking, instead for pointless posts.
Any guy that got boosted above your ladder spot, means that you are one spot below your deserved spot. If you do the deeper math behind, it actually starts with mmr etc., but basically means that you lost directly to a boosted team or indirectly, because you lost to a team that is playing on your mmr, because they lost to a boosting team on a higher mmr.
So beside any fair play rules and so on, it directly affects anyone who is playing the competitive mode.
The only logical conclusion must therefore be:
Boosting is a big problem!
Stop finding morally questionable and reprehensible legitimacies for your dirty business and become a respectable and handsome person, with an honorable profession that doesn’t profit from harming others!!!
People getting boosted also creates more spots on the ladder for Rank 1 to begin with, thus increasing the drive for people to actually push. (assuming the ladder isn’t dead).
Boosting doesn’t truly effect anyone besides the people who look for excuses. Boosting has been happening since pvp was released however many years ago, it’s becoming more and more apparent now because when a ladder is inactive, you tend to q into the same teams. This issue isn’t a result from boosting, it’s a result from longer seasons and 0 content updates, thus making people uninterested.
You mention to me to use my brain, but honeybuns, just because you’re hard stuck at 1700 and can’t break that 1800 because of “boosters”, doesn’t mean you should post on an alt account that has no achievements. Be proud of being bad, it’s the only way to improve.
I wan’t to also point out that if someone is getting boosted by 2 good players, chances are high the boostee isn’t very good themselves, and you’re losing a 3v2 in a meta where the game quite literally caters to casuals.

Only if they would usually be below 1k rating, which is very rare, because people below 1k rating usually don’t care to play. But yes, maybe it’s a few more spots, but why would the absolute majority care about max 5 more people getting a r1? Should they suffer from those very very few people’s ego? I don’t think so!
We had slavery for thousands of years, should we go back to these days? Only because something lasted for long, doesn’t mean it’s good! If something so unfair and unsporting happens, it needs to be fixed!

My dear wannabe, I get every single season the spot I am aiming for and while it’s true that I got more casual since Legion, as the game became more boring each expansion, I am still easily getting gladiator - especially these days when it’s basically for free with 2.4k rating.
But I still stand my point, because just like most athletes, I abhor unfair and unsportsmanlike play! Only little disgusting pleps who also think cheating, scamming and so on is fine, would boost people to a ladder spot they don’t deserve. Sure, there are friends that might help other friends - but as soon as some kind of trading is involved, it’s not fair anymore. And we both know that you are doing it, because you get some kind of real money for it!
So you want to tell me, that two 3k rated player aren’t able to push anyone to 2.1k or even 2.4k, if they have solid gear (not super undergeared at least) are able to get the pve rotation done and listen to calls? Then 3k means nothing today anymore, it seems!
However, not a single argument that make me think: Boosting is a good thing. In fact, you proofed my point even more! Boosting should be punished with lifetime ban!
Boosting is an inevitability in a what will prob be a 34 week season with gear behind rating and time gates on both alts and mains and at least a month of mandatory PvE
Not to mention only real upgrades outside rating/upgrading being time gated to the vault.
I never get invited to mythic 15s on my 214 alt rogue thru LFG even tho the dungeon only drops 210 gear.
If you try to do this mountain of chores the “legal” way it kinda feels like punishment at this point in the season.
Still with all that said if you aren’t just dumpstering the boosted player asap you’re trolling
it seems like it’d be really dumb to pretend that there’s always something to take advantage of vs a boost team. sure hope that’s not as far as any opinions posted here are going, cuz that’d be silly

Gear is a bigger problem thhen boosting. If a 220 Ret Pal Tanks rating to sub 1400 he will be able to dominate undergeared players without much required skill.
There shouldn’t be such a massive gear difference in PvP.

Where are they wrong? people have always been boosted. Acct wide mounts/titles and and past expansion’s worth of ilvl gap is the bigger problem
