Body Type Customization

The next big set of custum options should be body types. My perspective is on the male characters as I don’t play as females. Don’t want to toss my two cents into that well, so those who do absolutely feel free to add your thoughts.

New body type options:

-Human- THIN, so we can have a proper wizard fantasy or if we just don’t want to look like we can break apart big boulders with our fists.

-Orc- LEAN, like Thrall’s Cata or WoD model. We can look more agile while still looking strong and powerful.

-Forsaken- FRESH, like Nathanos. That’s a fresh dead and quickly risen look. Add in the forsaken skin colors and maybe some minor rot options to keep it seperate from the living human models.

-Nightborn- THICKER, like the npcs in Suramar. Right now the player versions look like they’re still recovering from being a withered.

-Blood Elf- MUSCULAR, for our more melee oriented playstyle. Belves have a great lean look for casters, but need a more athletic build for brawler’s. This would also apply to Velves since they share the same model.

-Night Elf- JACKED, like Illidan. Nelves have an athletic, swimmer build. My thoughts on this come from the original Nelf designs from the WC3 days where they were big as a stark contrast to the thin Helf design.

-Troll- HUGE, like the big, green, muscular forest trolls. The total opposite of the skinny model.

-Pandaren- FIT, as a fighter would be. I think more people don’t give the pandas a chance cause they’re big, pudgy, and fluffy. Nothing wrong with an accurate panda design, but a more intimmidating design would be nice.

-Kul Tiran- BODYBUILDER, closest example would be Rexar. Kul Tirans have a strongman, powerlifter type of body. It’s a fat-jacked look. I’m suggesting a mass monster look like they’re ready to step on stage at the olympian competitions. Rexar sums it up nicely.

That’s all that comes to mind. Before mechagnomes became a thing I would have suggested a mechanized look for gnomes and goblins. And an option to go along with that I would have suggested an earthen look for dwarves. The shorter races are tougher to come up with noticeable body types since they are such compact models in comparison to the other races.

Sounds fantastic but from a developer standpoint, I imagine it’s quite a tall order.

And impossible because of it’s engine (that is just something I heard i’m not a game developer)

ok so this cant happen because if it did then kultirans would actually be a playable race and we cant have that.
everyone enjoys that kultirans are currently butt ughly and fat and no one likes them. if you gave them the option to be thin then people would play them over normal humans

They’d essentially be new models unlike other mmos that let you manipulate (with sliders) the one model to create a body type for your character.

And on the subject of new models, most of the body type suggestions are already in the game, complete with the full range of animations. Other models can still keep the same rigging they’d just manipulate the look (like adding some more muscles to the belves).

Seeing how they turned the Draenei skeleton into so many different things as well as the Night elf one.

I actually like this.

I’ve always wanted playable High elves with a Night elf rig modified a tad bit.

Agreed, human females are disgustingly fat and I really don’t like it.

… was that a pun?

not intentionally

The big trolls are called dire trolls, and they are either regular trolls sacrificing life span for strength through alchemical rituals or they are born that way. There is a child dire troll in the hall of castes Dazar’alor.

They cant without a major rewrite to the code, Wow models don’t have built-in morph targets, and the fact all armor that is not 2D would have to be reworked to handle morph targeting for morphed body parts.

There’s two types of big trolls. I’m not talking about the lumbering goliaths. Best example I can think of is Throne of Thunder. The first boss is the mega troll that I’m thinking of when you say dire troll. While the big, jacked green troll that I’m suggesting for a body type is part of the group during the third boss fight.

Oh you mean the updated forest troll model that is also a wq boss in bfa. Yeah I just count that as forest troll. Which a lot of troll players want.

10/10 still welcomed.

Lol, Male belves are stupidly swole as it is.

Compared to Nightborn? Sure. Compared to Nelves? No way.

Compared to reality. Play a blood elf, their backs so damn big it looks stupid.

I still want male draenei that look more like Kil’jaeden/Archimode/Velen
They’re still built like refrigerators but now they’re vertical instead of horizontal

I’m always for more customization, but I don’t know how feasible it would be given how models currently work. Makes me envious when I run across an NPC in the game that doesn’t fit the options we’re given.

Forsaken have at least gotten better, but there’s still that decrepit hunch. Same with trolls.

Preset body types would be nice, just a trio to choose from maybe for each race. “Base”, thinner, and broader. Blizz, though, would definitely be concerned about aesthetics and how it would/would not ruin the “feel” they want for the game.

Well they advertised at Blizzcon we have a chance to make “our avatar look more like us.” (I find people tend to not want this anyway…) I think that was false advertising since it doesn’t address different body frames. So again they are responsible for putting that idea in my mind and they don’t deliver.

Edit: Ew, I just seen OPs suggestions for the body types they want for like four heavily female played classes and it was bodybuilder. (All the elves etc.)

This is why I can’t trust Blizzard to make good decisions for body frames and why female orcs are so rampant. (Shadowlands, Baldur’s Gate 3 trailer…) Also Abby from Last of us 2 was not warmly received by a majority of people and the game flopped. OP it’s ok to like a body builder stereotypes but when yours doesn’t suit the need of the masses. (Stated obvious proof) It’s just selfish and I don’t think we need an overabundance of it. Not completely discrediting cause variety is important but I am just sayin’

Love this idea. I always wanted an NE Druid that was more like the WC3 Druid of the Claw.

Also great idea with the Pandaren. I am picturing something like Emperor Shao Hao from the mini-series. He was completely lean for a panda.
