Bnet Agent is officially Malware

Blizz, get your POS Agent off our systems before you screw something up. I have been battling Agent for a half hour now because it has completely maxed out my bandwidth and there is no patch or updates in any game I have installed on my system.

I have been watching it in NetLimiter and it’s only Agent that is maxing my bandwidth to the limit. The last time this happened a couple weeks ago it downloaded nearly 10gigs of data.

It refuses to stop maxing out my bandwidth and every time I suspend or kill the process, it comes back with a completely different process ID. I have to completely close the launcher to get it to close and stop killing my internet.

I have asked about this in the past and have gotten ZERO answers, so I’m assuming blizz is being quiet so no one else figures out what its doing.

Does anyone have a way to block it, perhaps with just a firewall or will it just circumvent that too?

I would try here to see what help or advice they can offer:

You could just limit the amount it takes up…

There’s no option to limit Agent, only the launcher

Most modern routers can do this or free apps.

Turn on QOS on your router.

Don’t have that option, internet comes through a home internet cell source, it’s extremely limited on what I can do at the actual router/box/whatever you want to call it. Literally the only control I have is over what devices can connect to it and a very basic set of rules for those devices, aside from that, just simple rebooting and being able to see network stats.

Windows 10 limit program usage

Limit Bandwidth to Certain Applications in Windows 10 In order to limit bandwidth to select applications in Windows, we are going to use a third party application called Net Balancer. The free or unregistered version of this app is capable of limiting up to three processes at any given point of time, which is good enough for most home users.

Damn you must have some low bandwidth… i wanna see something cap my 1GB bandwidth

I mean, if Agent were an engine, it’s redline with your foot to the floor, causes me horrendous lag. No other network source causes that kind of issue, not even steaming a 4k video (though I get that’s mostly buffering anyway).

And what pisses me off the most is there is nothing downloading in the launcher itself, nothing for WoW, Classic, etc, not even the launcher itself is downloading an update.

In download settings, you can limit what bandwidth is used, up and down. Maybe that will help.

Tried that, the limiter in the launcher only limits the launcher itself, not Agent.

So is anyone besides OP actually having this issue? Haven’t opened Bnet all day and don’t have a need to, so I’m curious whether others are actually having this problem or if it’s one person with an issue that is likely unrelated to Bnet.

I did a quick search on the internet and there’s a couple results describing exactly what I’m seeing, but no solutions or answers why.

Welcome to 99% of GD complaints, who also refuse to talk to CS and actually address/troubleshoot the issue.

I mostly just want to know ahead of time whether there are actual problems. :dracthyr_hehe: Been spending time with Necrom, so I’ve not opened Bnet much except for yesterday.

I don’t have this issue but I do have the unending update and restart messages, sometimes 2-3 times a day.

You said you use NetLimiter. That is your solution. Set a rule and a bandwith limit for the processes. You can toggle it on or off specificall or globally within the software.

I tried, but you need the full copy to do that. Maybe I’ll look at purchasing it for future issues.

Yeah… apparently my helpful link to the correct forum got ignored.
