Built a new PC last week. Every game is fine, but WoW. My character, character screen, collections, and the ground textures are blurry UNLESS I change my render scaling to 200%.
I’m on a 1080p monitor but if I do any scaling less than 200%, it’s blurry.
Same here. Had to reduce to CMAA or else it looks like I’m playing wearing someone else’s glasses prescription. I thought there was some type of depth-of-field effect going on. I googled this issue a bunch, but all I saw relevant was: 1) people complaining about the loss of full-screen exclusive mode, and 2) change render scale to 200% (which defeats the purpose of running a 1080p monitor when I could have purchased a 4k).
There are no issues with MSAA in Classic; it’s just in retail. If anyone knows why MSAA is so blurry now, and possibly an issue to resolve it, I’d appreciate it.
Also, I should note, there are no issues with MSAA in the Classic client. Here are the relevant requested images from the retail client and my DxDiag information.
There are nine errors from the Alienware Command Center. I know this app can apply graphics profiles when a game is launched, so it might be worth disabling it from loading on startup to see if it’s the issue.
Windows Error Reporting:
+++ WER0 +++:
Fault bucket 1483490464495097444, type 5
Event Name: MoAppCrash
Response: Not available
Cab Id: 0
Problem signature:
P1: DellInc.AlienwareCommandCenter_5.2.97.0_x64__htrsf667h5kn2
I also noticed the User DPI and System DPI are mismatched, which can cause blurry images/text.
User DPI Setting: 96 DPI (100 percent)
System DPI Setting: 120 DPI (125 percent)
I could have sworn that I disabled the Alienware Command center in CCleaner and msconfig, and disabled any services. I am going to uninstall those components and disable windows’ automatic scaling fix.
I think that removing the Windows dpi fix might have worked–although I don’t know how a system-based setting could have an impact on an application controlled level. Maybe it’s the same and I’m not in the right zone to see the blurriness (originally noticed in Bastion and I’m now in Revendreth). I’m going to keep it like this unless I notice a difference. At least for now, it looks like the issue where it appeared that there was a depth-of-field effect has been removed.
Thanks for letting me know about the error reporting in the dxdiag log–I never would have checked it. They were all old errors, but I uninstalled the programs and cleared the event reporter.
There are no errors in that report, and hopefully the problem is gone.
The only other thing I spotted in the report is that the monitor is set beyond its native refresh rate (60Hz) to 144Hz. This would be factory overclocking of the display, and probably wouldn’t interfere, but it’s the only other suspicious detail.
Yes it is. You might not be able to see it looking at the imgur link, (there might be some compression), but MSAA causes something like a depth-of-field effect, making everything slightly blurry instead of just rounding the “jaggies”.
After going to a different zone, I can see the blurriness is back and I reverted to CMAA. As I said before, and I know it’s a modified engine, but the issue isnt present in classic.
It’s the first option there. Also if you have the Nvidia Overlay setup, press Alt+F3 while in game, you can add a vast array of other post processing options like, sharpening, and a whole bunch of random crap.
The overlay allows you to adjust sharpening while in game, the control panel allows it to be permanently set and not adjustable until out of game, so you use the overlay to set a good setting for yourself, than permanently set it in the control panel.
Just the scenery is blurred, but really noticable without sharpening. If you have any idea why this may be I’d be grateful. And yes I turned of AA and all that, makes no difference.
