In a raid environment, a blood dk that isn’t wearing tank gear is also going to get splattered in one-two swings especially if he gets a crit, it’s a crazy high amount of damage that tanks have to handle.
Blood DK DPS can only really off tank an individual trash mob or a heroic dungeon boss if they’re wearing DPS gear.
So would an Arms Warrior or a Ret Paladin. The difference is those are dps trees with little to no tankiness built into them. Blood has tankiness built into its tree by design - you literally cannot avoid tank talents in the blood Cata talent tree. A theoretical blood dps spec in Cata would by design have way more survivability than any other melee dps spec
The OP specified something like gladiator stance that warriors had in WoD.
I’m not him but I’m guessing that was his way of offering an “easy” solution to the problem because the other way would be to have larger talent trees that offered defensive and offensive options for DKs like wotlk which blizzard probably won’t do.
The OP can only take solace in the fact that DKs can form all DK raids in cataclysm if they’re both good and geared.
i think the point of this thread isn’t about if Blood dps can be competitive dps or not.
it is that Cata changes will destroy the chances of any blood DK that aim to play as blood dps, since cata stripped him off many things he had in wrath, and those who enjoy playing blood dk as dps are hoping/asking for a change.
The only thing that really “destroys” it is the Mastery being completely tank oriented and the DPS set bonuses lacking Blood related bonuses. Other than that, Blood still has plenty of DPS talents, and the abilities still have good coefficients.
Not going to discuss facts. You have two other specs that are straight up better.
Regardless, not the point of this thread. Blood is a tank spec in Cata. They removed tank options for the other two specs. They are not going to completely overhaul DK just to make the 15 people happy that got shadowmourne from a guild just to do mediocre damage. As seen in the blue post that I posted, they were just “ok” with the idea of DK being able to tank and dps on each spec and it being terrible imbalanced.
I most certainly do. Even more than you do, perhaps.
Blood DK dps is so viable that your guild doesn’t even use it.
Why don’t you start showing us how viable it is by making your Raid Leader have the huge and undeniable benefits of a Blood DK DPS, then come back, we’ll have a talk.
