Bobby severed along side of Barry Diller on the coca cola board of directors. Barry Diller bought 108 million in activation shares 4 days before the announcement.

So Bobby works for Activision Blizzard

They don’t have to work for Blizzard for Blizzard’s trades to involve insider trading.

They could have been told (improperly) that the buyout was planned by someone at Microsoft or Activision or a 3rd party.

I don’t think any of them?

Mr. Diller has served on the board of directors of Coca-Cola Co. with Activision Chief Executive Bobby Kotick. Coca-Cola announced this month that Mr. Kotick would step down from its board this year. Mr. Diller described Mr. Kotick as “a long time friend.” Activision declined to comment. Microsoft MSFT -1.01% declined to comment.

That’s an excerpt from the article. I skimmed it because this stuff is boring to me, although for some reason I have an active WSJ subscription and forgot about it.

I can’t wait for the forum to start screaming about the next boogeyman after Mr. Kotick.

I think it’d be funny to travel back in time to like 95 or something and tell the gamers back then that one day we’d sit around on online message boards talking about insider stock trading instead of video games

Adult topics have always been adult topics.

Bobby isn’t the focus of the investigation, yet. There’s an obvious connection and its almost a certainty of that the merger was learned from him in some way, but that doesn’t mean he did anything that violated company policy or even illegal. For example, one of these guys could have overheard one of Bobby’s phone calls, looked over Bobby’s shoulder at the wrong time while he was texting or simply seen Bobby meet someone from Microsoft’s M&A team and just put 2 and 2 together. None of that would have become illegal for anyone until these guys decided to buy a ton of ATVI stock.

Frankly, I am in the “DILIGAF” camp with Blizz on this. Its barely a blip compared to the sexual harassment issues and the insanity that is going on in the rest of the world. Although I do enjoy the thought that a bunch of ultra rich jerks are about to get reamed by the SEC. That’s nice.

Bobby wasn’t the one insider trading.

Every merger smells fishy from a mile away and riddled coincidences which makes SEC member’s mouth water. I can’t even remember that last time they DIDN’T investigate a merger with a fine toothed comb. Besides…it is blizzard, I don’t know why you’re all surprised they’re getting investigated.

LOOOOOOL

So, OP created a thread to rag on Mr. Kotick but the guy didn’t even do anything as is stated in the article OP linked?

It is implied that he may have but the investigation is ongoing. But basically, yes.

Well Barry Diller and Bobby Kotick serve together on the Coca-Cola board of directors, like I said, riddled coincidences.

“serve together on the board of directors” doesn’t necessarily mean they’re pals who exchange gossip

Bobby left Coca-Cola board of directors just before the merger. Again. Like I said. Riddled with coincidences.

Who else would have this information? It’s a little hard to believe that an outsider of the company just woke up one day and said you know what I feel like investing 108 million in stock into Activision 4 days before the announcement.

You have better odds winning the lotto than to do something like that.

and yet it happens all the time.

many of these very high net worth individuals don’t manage their own portfolios. they have full time investment managers handling their trades. they’re not personally spending three hours a day on the phone talking about what to buy and what to sell.
