Don’t even try to mine in the Cravens unless you do it like at 3 am or so…that place down there is full of bots…I land on a mine node and 5+ other players do…if your not fast you lose out cause the node is gone after 5 hits…
They do but its done like only every 6 month or so…you can file report after report on bots but nothing will be done for quite a long time …they say they have to gather evidences of the botting or something to that effect.
“Disabling” addons and macros would kill the game overnight.
Blizzard has said time and time again they actually lose money from bots. From losing real players in bot sweeps, to money they spend fighting it? I am willing to bet its at least a loss a couple hundred dollars per bot.
i think this is a lie, if it was hurting their bottom dollar as they say then the board would be all over this as it was affecting their profits - the fact nothing is being done about bots determined this was a lie
This will never happen.
Things are regularly done about bots.
They are impossible, though, to completely eradicate.
im sure they are, to placate the population and to say they are doing something about, again if it was messing with profits the board would be all over this. The board doesn’t care about making art or a cool video game, they care about the bottom line. Like i said, the fact these bots still run rampant in this game determined that was a lie.
If they really cared they could easily hire a GM to float around on different layers and catch all the obvious bots farming in the first place - but they dont. They don’t care nearly as much as people say they do.
So because bots still exist…
It means they are doing nothing at all?
Once again.
Its physically impossible to get rid of all bots.
Ban waves > banning 1 bot at a time.
I just think its more you dont quite get how it works.
I get that a ban wave caught on by a flagged system is much cheaper to implement than paying someone to go through and catch the rampant amount of obvious bots in zerelek caverns or w/e.
They don’t care dude. In a similiar fashion, to our knowledge cancer has no cure - but it isn’t stopping people from trying everything they can to treat different and changing types of cancer. I know that is a bit of stretch to compare bots to cancer (even though they are a cancer to the game) but the sentiment still stands.
-
It is easy to implement an auto flagging program and rely on your players to report other players (even though other players use this system to troll and ban people for no reason - you can mass report someone for nothing)
-
They don’t care nearly as much as you say, and it doesn’t affect their income as much as people claim - again if any profits were being “stolen” or “lost” by bots as much as people say then there would be more systems in place to deal with them.
-
Again if they cared, they could easily hire and train someone REMOTELY even to tackle on these bots in obviously places daily, but they don’t, they don’t care buddy. Only enough to placate the player base and say they are doing something about, when in reality it is still a rampant problem.
Edit: Here is a 4. Ban waves enable botters to complete and sell items on a scheduled basis, if anything a scheduled ban prepares botters to dump their resources before every update on tues to protect their money and assets, if anything randomly banning bots would be more effective.
Its also a ton more effective. And hurts botters far more.
Cancer still exists.
This obviously means no one is doing anything other than the barest minimum to deal with cancer.
This would be absolutely horrible.
How much did I say they cared?
I would like to see your numbers on their effects of profit.
Just because you are suggesting horrible systems, that doesnt mean they dont care.
But we know they are tackling these bots.
Having a person sit around and manually ban them one at a time is one of the worst ways to deal with bots. It actually helps the botters.
It is already in the game bud, people mass report other people already to troll them. You can test this out yourself, get your guild together and pick one person to report their name for being inappropriate (not a bot as they will get banned) and with enough reports with no validation they will be instantly brough to the character menu and asked to change their name.
if you hate this system blame blizzard, i didnt suggest it, i was bringing attention to it

So what…specifically…are you asking to be implemented?
I wasnt asking for anything, i was stating that that is the system we have already, and it sucks.
Thanks for proving my point
I guess your verb tense threw me off.
Anyways.
Back to my main point.
Ban Waves >>>>>>>>> Banning 1 at a time.
Sure i agree, but if they hired someone they could easily ban hundreds in a day, probably more. I’m not asking for someone to be hired and pick one person per day. It would probably be like shooting fish in a barrel with much of a problem this is.
I mean damn I probably see 4 bots a day in the game between arenas, the world, and dungeon leveling on alts - that I can explicitly tell are bots. I couldn’t even imagine how many bots someone could catch with GM powers. Probably hundreds per day.
but if they hired someone they could easily ban hundreds in a day, probably more
150 in a single day is probably the rational limit. That is one every 3.2 minutes through out the day. You cant ban without some paperwork and follow through. Its not just a point/click whackamole.
Lets say this person they hired gets 300 a day. Thats about 9,000 a month.
Blizzard started reporting monthly ban waves last summer.

They are already doing faaaaar more than your are asking them to do. About 14x-30x more.
I suppose, but it just doens’t feel like enough. What would you suggest to make this problem go away? That is some good info and perspective. Ty for posting that.
The fact that bots can still exist with that many being banned is… disgusting. What an eye opener.
What would you suggest to make this problem go away
It cant.
Thats the issue.
The fact that bots can still exist with that many being banned is… disgusting.
It is, its an arms race.
Blizzard finds a new way to detect bots. Bans a bunch.
People update their bot to get around that way Blizzard just mass detected them.
Blizzard then finds yet a new way to mass detect bots. Bans a bunch.
People update their bot to get around that way, yet again.
Its a vicious cycle.
Ban waves work best because it gets large groups at once. It gives less times the people writing the botting programs to know what is detecting them. But there is no way to completely shut down botters.
I use to to do that in games pre WoW. Would make a alt account and befriend a suspected cheater. Then record all audio and screenshots of them in text admitting to guilt.
That would take hours per cheater banned.
