I have tried 4 times to cancel my WOW subscription and it fails every time. I opened a ticket to report the wow subscription cancellation bug and ask them to immediately cancel my subscription and Blizzard has not bothered to reply within 5 days.
Well, ticket times are quite high right now, with the Wrath Patch, the non-participation suspensions and other things. I’m sure they will get to your ticket real soon.
Ticket times are around 6+ days currently.
Have you tried different browsers?
Are you running any security software, if so - temporarily disable it and try.
What error message are you getting?
Simply delete your Credit card information. they can’t debit your account then. But seriously, $15 a month, divided by 30 days is $0.50 per day. Not something worth stressing about.
deleting your card information will not cancel the subscription.
wh…what? what if they changed a number or two in the payment method?
Just to be sure…
Go to your account overview
In the block labeled SUBSCRIPTIONS & GAME TIME, select the WoW license you wish to cancel and click the MANAGE link to the right. On the next screen, click the CANCEL SUBSCRIPTION link. You’ll be prompted to complete a brief cancellation survey.
The system checks card numbers when they are entered. Changing “a number or two” returns the card as invalid. There is also a small chance (astronomically small, but still not impossible) that changing a few numbers would hit on a valid card registered to someone else. That’s a very serious issue.
Removing the payment method associated with the subscription does actually cancel the subscription.

How long ago it may have changed is not something I’m familiar with, but I do recall this question came up a year ago or so and it was possible then.
thanks for the update.
Thanks for the tips. I tried removing the Payment Option but failed with the error, “An error occurred.
Oops! We couldn’t remove this payment method at the moment. Please try again later.” That probably failed because I have already canceled the payment option ability and I am not going to reinstate it just so I can cancel the WOW sub. But if the payment method is no longer viable, that should not be a reason for denying canceling it, rather it is a damn good reason for being able to cancel the payment method.
Or perhaps it just failed because it’s part of Blizzard’s sub-cancellation buggy code, the code they don’t bother fixing.
It would by necessity. They cannot pull the subscription from a card they do not have. so they would stop the sub.
I think they are running a scam by making it impossible to cancel a sub without contacting tech support. I tried last week but the cancellation was never completed and when I tried to remove my credit cards I got errors and it wouldn’t remove my cards either. Now they have gotten me for another $19. I tried again today and got the same result. I seriously doubt that their website subscription and banking information web pages have been down for a complete week. I bet they make millions off of this scam.
Why would they risk massive fines and sanctions per incident over a subscription fee?
I’m sorry, Chantee, but that is one of the more ridiculous things I have heard in a long time.
I don’t know why you may be having trouble cancelling, but it isn’t because we secretly are forcing you to remain subscribed by breaking the site. >.<
If you are having trouble canceling, and clearing your browser’s cookies/cache, trying a different browser and/or connection isn’t working (also see if you have any security or viral programs that may be causing an issue), then you’ll want to submit a ticket.
You can use Purchase Failure as the category, and let them know that you’ve tried to cancel your sub but it wasn’t going through. Make sure to list the recent charge and tell them you’d like a refund.
As this thread a couple months old and continues to get bumped I’m going to close it.
