Blizzard will never admit that Survival rework is a failure

100%. That’s why I said I’m glad they didn’t go that route. I’m just saying that they did have the opportunity to go down the “SV can be melee or ranged, depending on your talents” road.

I’d rather prefer it being like a stackable quasi-resource. Using Raptor Strike/Mongoose Bite gives you stacks (doesn’t necessarily need to be 1:1, either), and then you can toggle it on and Raptor Strike/Mongoose Bite has a 40yd range, each cast consuming a stack.

Given the fact that they spent maybe a sum total of 10 minutes on the entirety of the SL changes for MSV, I don’t think “tinkering with MSV” is on their radar.

Honestly, I expect them to either let MSV languish in obscurity indefinitely, or revert it to RSV. I actually wouldn’t be surprised if they’re planning to revert it in 10.0, the lack of attention to it in the SL beta mirrors the lack of attention RSV got during the WoD beta. And the fact that the baseline abilities they returned in SL are exclusively ranged abilities really says that even they see hunters as fundamentally ranged.

It sucks for MSV proponents, tbh. I do think a 4th spec is the optimal solution to this whole fiasco. But Blizzard probably doesn’t want to deal with the b#$@#ing from the other classes if they added a 4th spec to just one instead of all of them, so if they do anything with MSV, it’ll likely be to echo what they did in Legion and delete the spec, replacing it with RSV. Blizzard doing Blizzard things.

“Would it ever stop?”

“OnLY wHeN rAnGdEd Sv CoMeS bAcK”

Yea… Then comes the “omg new sv is weak” “too strong” “not like it was before” etc

That’s kind of the way I was looking at it, but refilling over time in addition to whatever other reloading mechanics.

Complaints about tuning/balancing are always brought up. No matter the spec, no matter the role.

This is not really a factor worth considering…

Yeah…that’s more or less a requirement in order for RSV to fit the modern game.
Doesn’t mean it cannot be designed with a core that primarily focuses on the same loop as before.

Trolls that know there is a fair certainty for responses with the rsv v msv option. There is always a off hand suprised -hey you guys! how about that melee survival spec- weekly post.

For most of the game survival was melee/PvP oriented. Cata babies be like let me get my dark arrow/explosive arrow build back to be an off brand of marksmen

SV was definitely ranged longer than melee, and both BM and MM have been stronger in PvP more often than SV. So just incorrect all around really.

I still remember the crying back when BM was flat out the only option in PvP because Bestial Wrath literally made you and your pet entirely immune to CC for the duration, and also made your pet unkillable to boot.

Let’s bring that back.

Not even wholly sarcastic. Just make it a reduction to CC duration that fades linearly over time (100% reduction right on press, 0% by BW’s end) and is hastened by CCs thus reduced (as if you’d lost 3 seconds of BW or so each time). Can still focus them down that way, but you’ll be fully immune to the first stun or so within the first few seconds.

(Honestly, I just miss the occasional option in PvE to hold onto it a smidgen longer in order to immunize a raidwide CC.)

I dont think its anout buckling down. I like the spec. It probably could use a few more changes. But I like this spec, I like where this is going. I like melee.

???

Black arrow / explosive shot was introduced in WOTLK.

Also, it was never “melee oriented” it was based on giving you tools to get out of melee & buffing survivability, then in TBC it was changed to being focused on support and utility & definitely ranged.

Also lol & off-brand marksman

you realize back then, before legion even, specs were “impove this aspect of the class” and not “basically a different class” right? like, BM, MM, and SV were all just the base hunter class, but specialized in certain things, like dots, pets, or big hits

Having it remove CC on cast would already be insane. Having immunity would be broken lol.

I actually love the current survival hunter. That’s what I main currently!!

I have to 2nd Trent here. I think in the modern game (especially with how we naturally lower BW’s CD with barbed shot) this would be wayyyy too strong.

I do miss it though lol

It’s a popular outlet for nerd rage and tribalism that exists in every fandom, in part because it fits so well. If it wasnt for the SV debate, the same people would need to find something else to discuss. It probably wouldn’t satisfy as well nor for as long.

Possibly for others. I know for myself at least, it’s something I do feel passionate about but I also don’t try to hold onto anger / rage. For me it is less of an outlet for rage and more a place to try and discuss the class in a place where I hope Blizz will take notice.

I think that’s also part of the reason I try to avoid using personal attacks, or apologizing later when I think I have made an unfair statement. I don’t want to feed into any such rage and I think it does nothing to strengthen my own arguments.

Overall, it’s not something I particularly enjoy even though I partake in these discussions frequently. Hell, it’s part of the reason I made the HCT. Well, that and the last one that lasted years sort of died off.

Limited to Legion almost entirely, considering the prevalence of ranged weapons in the SV fantasy. Crossbow, thrown bombs, thrown chakrams, thrown spear, harpoon gun…

Any of that is possible, and its hard to say what is likely. I am pretty confident that a good development would be a happy accident because they are completely out of touch and make most changes to design philosophy as last minute bandaids to percieved crises.

I have my own opinions about what might be best, but little confidence that they actually will arrive to anything satisfying, in part because WoW has really pushed the lifespan of MMORPGS which never die gracefully.

I’m enjoying my survival hunter… Sorry?

Maybe because I have no intention of doing raids, mythics or serious PvP, but this is the only spec other than the monk specs that I’m enjoying.
